1000 piece Galison I got for Xmas. It was pretty meh. Too many pieces stuck together, stupid image, etc…3 out of 10 would not recommend.
2000 pieces and sorting is impossible. I have three piles: edges, purple (top/skyline), and yellow (bottom/taxis). You mfers are knocking out 1k puzzles in a day and this is going to take me at least two weeks.
Dealing with freezing rain & sleet in Dallas this week and whole city is basically shut down. So time to bust out puzzles. Started this puzzle around New Year’s but then toddler got to it and kindly disassembled it. So started over on it last night. Finished it this morning. Braved the trip 2 Walgreens to pick up 2 more. Wife chose Lego puzzle, oh god what have I done. This is gonna be difficult.
Just finished some parental leave where the wife and I finished a 1000 piece puzzle, a 2000 piece puzzle and just finished another 2000 piece. Absolutely hooked right now. Starting another 2000 piece with a 3000 piece on deck.
The 2000 piecer I’m doing now is really kicking my ass. 1000 is my sweet spot and where I’m gonna stay for a while after this.
The blue in the puzzle I posted was a pain in the ass. The next 2 we have have some more designs in them, which should help.
Had to shut down for 48 hours to travel for my uncle’s funeral. Back at the salt mines now though. 1000pc Kinkade next. Love doing puzzles of his paintings. The exceptional use of light can make them very tricky.
This 2000 piece Galison was a beast and took the better part of three weeks for me. It was probably the most challenging puzzle I’ve done so far. The more abstract image made sorting impossible so it just turned into putting together a dozen smaller sections and threading it all with the homogenous border pieces. And even with the smaller sections, most of it was very abstracted and hard to complete. My #makingpuzzleshappen rating is 6 out of 10. I’ve found out I’m not really a fan of Galison and I prefer more defined images. The satisfaction of completing the challenge outweighed the negative, but I think I’m done with Galison puzzles and Storrings images.
We’ve been doing a bunch Cavallini and Co ones lately. They’re on the nicer end of cardboard so they don’t have all the shedding when you put them out and fit nicely.
Was in target today and browsed the puzzle aisle. Picked up two and was pleasantly surprised at sled checkout when they rang up buy one get one half off.
It’s an enjoyable change up from the slog of normal cardboard. The finesse and precision of piecing wooden stuff together is very satisfying to me.
Another 2000 piece wife and I knocked out. Loved this one. Taking a break tho for a bit bc of how addicting this has been and we are getting nothing else done in our free time. Gonna have to buy one of those Liberty puzzles sometime tho.
Been up since 4am making BBQ and cranked the whole thing out today. 471 pieces…didn’t use the picture so it was all about matching the different patterns and sections. I don’t think I’ve noticed before, but the whimsy pieces match the sections. So the wolf piece was part of the wolf section, eagle in the eagle part, etc. Aside from the 4am alarm, pretty much the perfect morning: tending a fire and doing puzzles.
Yeah it was pretty cool in the last wood we did it had a woman lounging reading a book whimsy piece but in the puzzle that piece was laying on a raft in the pool
Quick and easy 999 piecer from Goodwill for $1.09. The trees in the upper left took as long as the rest of the puzzle.
Never done BlueKazoo puzzles before, but their classic format is 50% off right now. I’ll give it a whirl for ~$15 per 1000 piece premium puzzle.
This is an Antelope brand 1000 piecer for $23. Pretty expensive for what it is, but the image and Van Gogh theme are pretty cool. 7 out of 10 on the mph scale. Puzzle season is wrapping up for me with the weather getting warmer. See you all (lol) in the fall.
https://bluekazoo.games/products/earth-jigsaw-puzzle This is probably the most challenging (but fair) puzzle I’ve done. That’s 1000 pieces and a 26” circle. I worked on it a little here and there for the past 3-4 months but finished the final ~300 pieces this week cause the weather sucked. I’ve also got the moon and sun from this series. Need to take a break from this style for a while though.
https://www.puzzlekolik.com/en/urun/magnolia_puzzle_3533-happy_ending_1000_pieces_puzzle/ I think I’m gonna frame it and hang it in my office.
Being terribly colorblind makes puzzles really difficult for me but I can manage/adapt if there’s enough pattern within the colors to concentrate on rather than the colors themselves.
Not my favorite type of puzzle, but it was much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. The different shaped pieces and fit of everything made up for the busy image. This is the first Dowdle brand I’ve done and I’m impressed with the quality. Now that the puzzle is finished, gonna box it up and return it to Costco for a refund.
Wife and I did this one over a couple months a little while back. The sky and water was some of the hardest puzzling I’ve had to do.
Started a 1000pc circle puzzle of the moon which is basically a grey-scale. Puzzle courtesy of jbr . Thanks man, this thing might break my brain for good.
I did the earth puzzle and it was the most difficult puzzle of my making puzzles happen career. I have the sun and moon too but can’t bring myself to try them yet. Good luck.
My 2024 completions so far. The cat puzzle is one of my all time favorites. It flowed from the outside in pretty naturally and finished up with the smaller shapes in the center. It was a really enjoyable one to work on.
My 5yo and I have been gradually doing puzzles together in down time before bed. It’s been awesome and he’s gotten really efficient and can see stuff I don’t. We are doing 1000 piece puzzles over the span of 2-3 weeks and I’m so impressed by him.
Magic Puzzle Co anybody? We just randomly found "The Busy Bistro" at a thrift and quite enjoyed it. It comes in one large envelope and a second smaller one. When you complete the first, you realize you can shift a significant portion of the completed puzzle, eventually revealing an additional new space in the middle that you fill in with the contents of the second envelope. Artwork is great.
Yeah we’ve done some, I posted them in here earlier and I think jbr did one or two. I really like them.
The last Gallison puzzle I have. Not my favorite brand and the design was annoying: circle planet pieces, non interlocking border pieces, etc. Would not make this puzzle happen again.
