What is the deal with trying to portray anyone who thought the movie sucked as some ultra Star Wars neckbeard nerd? The movie was in large part terrible...no need to be upset about it.
so, it sounds like much of what we've gotten was actually Lucas' idea, after all. From the Art of the Last Jedi book: This was all before JJ came on. So, at least for the fanboys complaining about this not being Lucas' vision and therefore "not canon", the only differences we might have ended up with are much worse dialogue and acting in VII and VIII.
The fact Dairy Queen thought it was a bad film honestly makes me feel a lot better about the reality I enjoyed it so much.
I enjoyed it too...but it was objectively bad and fans should pray that this Rian Johnson fella gets run off from doing a whole trilogy
Not sure if we are doing spoilers for the books, but I'll play along... Spoiler I was thinking the same thing. Above all, Phasma is a survivor. I'm not sure how to read into the work that was put in to creating the book and the comic run...is it too much work for someone who was killed off so cheaply, thus implying we will see her again? or was it that they are done with her in the movies so wanted to fill in some content in print?
Just got out. Took my 5 year old to see his first Star Wars movie in a theater. I watched his face when it opened and the look on his face made the 3 bathroom trips during the movie worth it
I don't really get TFA hate. I mean I understand why a hardcore fan wouldn't care for it, because it's basically ANH 40 yrs later. But it's a good reset after trash prequels, tells a good and coherent story, and is entertaining enough to draw in new fans. My wife would never start with the original trilogy, but I'm convinced I could get her to buy in if I started with TFA.
I just made sure my kids had the appropriate love for the original trilogy before I let them watch the prequels *edit*- literally watching A New Hope with my 7.5 and 6 year olds as I type, and they're quoting the Toshi station line/whine
Viewing number 2 lined up, the 8:30 am IMAX tomorrow. Everyone says it’s better the second time around so I definitely cantwait.gif
Might see it twice today. Wife and I are going for her 2nd viewing tonight at 730. I might go around lunchtime too.
Definitely enjoyed the second viewing more. Probably due to managing expectations this time. I was able to get more of the little things or hard to hear dialog this time. This movie will definitely age well. I didn’t even hate the Canto Bight scene this time (minus the horse chase, which is bad, but a good time to refill my giant soda and pee). My least favorite part this go around was BB8 saving them on Snoke’s ship. Would have been a good time to have BDT’s character come back in, Han Solo parallels be damned. It still suffers from the movie trope of 10 seconds of talking would solve a lot of problems (in this case, the Poe/Holdo fight).
I can't get over how amazing the movie becomes as soon as Rey enters the darkside cave. It's a sprint to the finish from then on and there's still over an hour left
I have a question for the porg haters. The ones that say the porgs are only there to sell toys. I don't disagree with that, but I don't care if they are. What are your thoughts on Snoke's red guards? They are just as clearly there to sell toys. You can collect all 8, each comes with a different space-ninja weapon! Where is your outrage against them?
I don’t understand the porg hate either. People comparing them to Ewoks is fucking retarded. The porgs are just there. They don’t have a fucking subplot nor a made for TV movie about them
Of course like any rational person I could live with or without the Porgs. That said, the small amount of characterization done on them totally pays off in the Chewy yell. That part is fucking awesome and I feel so sorry for whatever happened in your life if you disagree.
The porgs are there because it was easier to digitize over the natural wildlife on the island with a program code vs digitally erasing them.
chewey scene was funny. nothing else from them was memorable. all in all didn't particularly help or hurt my experience.
I think we're due for another holiday special, this time with Wookies and porgs. How bad could it be?
Second viewing today. Didn’t notice Leia foreshadowing Holdo’s light speed attack while force flying from space the first time around.
Yeah at my 845am showing today I sat by a couple of 60 year olds. They enjoyed the movie and thought the porgs were hilarious. I think it's just hardcore star wars nerds that take things too seriously. I say that as a hardcore fan and nerd but also as someone who doesn't get too bent out of shape about stuff.
Saw it mentioned in the last week. Caught it this time when I saw it this afternoon. Just a neat little moment.
As an ewok hater I was worried about the porgs going in but I didn't mind them at all. Don't get the hate.
Yeah I don't know. In a movie filled to the brim with foreshadowing and meta commentary this still seems like a stretch.
What is there to not understand? When Leia flies back onyobt he bridge, she cuts through a holo of the Supremacy. It's a nod, some foreshadowing, whatever, to when Holdo takes her cruiser into the Supremacy.
Whaaa? I'm not saying it's a huge thing, but it's definitely a wink to those on rewatch. The movie is, as you said, filled with such things.
I had not noticed in my first veiwing how much bigger the Gollrilla style walkers are compared to the standard AT-AT.
