All three of them have done more non-Star Wars work in the two years since The Force Awakens than any of the OT trio did, including Harrison Ford.

And that's even more impressive considering there's only two years in between their movies, vs the three in between the OT films.

at this point, Driver is a "veteran" actor who's been in a ton of stuff and will continue to do so. I don't think he'll ever be a big box office leading man type, so being most well known for Star Wars shouldn't really affect him that much. He was already recognized for his talent beforehand. Same with Oscar Isaacs.

Ridley and Boyega run that risk, though with how they're handling Finn it shouldn't shoehorn Boyega too much into a certain type of role.

First off, that's not a counterargument to Ridley not wanting to be typecast - it would support the idea that she wants to be Daisy Ridley, not Rey.

Second, Ridley has done exactly one non-Star Wars project since TFA - an ensemble role in a crap movie - and was essentially unknown before TFA. Harrison Ford already had American Graffiti under his belt before Star Wars, and started the Indiana Jones trilogy in 81 and had Blade Runner in 82. She has other projects in the pipeline, but you know, it's an entirely reasonable career decision for a young actor to try to not emulate Mark Hamill's post-Star Wars filmography, and the best way to do that is to get herself out there as not Rey as soon and as often as possible.

I agree, but with the Rian Johnson trilogy seemingly next on the docket she should have her chance to do that since she won't be in the "next" trilogy while still having the plan for her to return for the next sequel trilogy in 5-10 years.

I wasn't very clear in my post.

I meant comparing the OT trio's work between ANH and Empire and the ST's work between TFA and TLJ; it's clear the ST trio has done more work.

You're right that Ridley hasn't done much but being in one high profile movie was more work than the OT trio did between their first two trilogy movies.

Nevertheless, my point was when 2028 or whatever rolls around and it's time to rev up for the next trilogy, if Disney wants to dump a metric ton of cash at her feet, she'll sign. Especially since she'll have had a decade in the meantime to do all kinds of other work.

It was a bunch if click bait articles taking her out of context.

She clarified a month ago and said she wasn't talking about quitting, just that it's a trilogy and she only signed a three picture deal and didn't think she'd do any more (as though they wouldn't need her after Ep 9) not that she wouldn't want to.

Man the prequels had so much potential just based on the basic plot.

It was just ruined by terrible acting, convoluted screenplays and an over-reliance on CGI tech that wasn't ready for what Lucas envisioned.

TPM is just so fucking dumb and convoluted. Even in this 3 minute version, it takes the fast-talking narrator almost 45 seconds to get to the opening scene where Obi Wan and Qui Gon arrive on the Trade Federation's ship. Almost a minute and a half to slog through that one movie.

What kind of story are people expecting out of Finn? The kid basically just left the only life he's ever known like a week ago. He was raised from infancy in the First Order stormtrooper corps. Then he ran away a couple days ago. Why are fans expecting so much out of this dude?

He had a pretty solid arc over the past two movies.

I think a lot of the TLJ complaints about his character being "done" are fair game, but not the ones that complain about his looking to leave on an escape pod early on. He's still the same guy that wanted to cut and run in TFA and only went to Starkiller to find Rey. Remember he lied to everyone about knowing how to take down the shield just to get on the planet to find his crush. That's how he ended TFA and thus how he began TLJ, looking to leave the fight to make sure Rey didn't get swept up in it.

Along the way he learned there are bigger "ideas" worth fighting for.

I still think him dying in the end, maybe taking out the cannon would have been a powerful finish, but I'm fine with him going into IX since he NOW has a developed character and a chance to be more than just the guy bred to fight who keeps looking to get out of them.

How would that have ended? Kinda eliminates the need for Luke to show up and allow the distraction for the escape out the back door if the front door is gonna remain secure right?

Obviously it's a domino effect when it comes to writing. If you're writing the screenplay and you have Finn take out the cannon, then there's some other way to break the door, or some other reason for Kylo and Luke to showdown, etc.

I'm not expecting anything from Finn. He could have sat in the ship the entire time and done nothing in TLJ and I would have been okay with it if the story was good. I was expecting the writer of this movie to give him a better story than what we got.

I don't know. I'm not trying to make another movie. I'm just commenting on the movie they made. Finn was a great character for the first movie, but it's tough to keep that character relevant for two more movies in the series when you also have someone like Poe involved. I'm not saying it's easy. What they tried didn't work, IMO. Rose sucked as a character, and they chose to do that story line with him.

Right now, Finn is learning about actual human interaction after growing up as a storm trooper. There are things you can do with that character that don't involve him falling in love with every woman his age group he meets. They could have put him with Poe on the casino journey and gotten better results, IMO. If they didn't have anything for him to do other than find another woman for him to fall in love with, they could have just had him recovering from his injuries the entire movie instead of sending him on a side mission that wasn't interesting or useful to the movie.

If you watched the movie and liked that story, good for you. I didn't, and I've given my reasons why.

A lot of people have said Poe and Finn should have gone to the Casino; I disagree. I think Poe's story was perfect for him. The next generation needs a new Leia in charge of the Resistance.

I think Finn and Rose's plot was fine, just bloated. I wouldn't have had the Casino planet at all. I'd have had them break DJ out of a prison cell on the ship (in the brig). Have it happen alongside Poe's mutiny, and it condenses that portion of the movie (which is the slowest part anyway), moving the pace along a lot better. You technically wouldn't even need the Rose character, though there was always going to be a new Chinese character in the movie, so whatever.

saved you a click: Williams is writing a Han Solo theme (leitmotif) and Powell will handle the score and other arrangements.

Crazy that Han never got his own theme, but then again Luke technically didn't either. There was the Force Theme (binary sunset) and Leia's theme in the original, and Leia and Han's theme in Empire and Luke and Leia's theme in Jedi

My favorite character theme is, and will continue to be Yoda’s. I think of all defining moments Luke had under the tutelage of Yoda on Dagobah + the surprising return of Master Yoda and his theme in The Last Jedi.

I fear that the general public is going to see the Solo trailer and give a collective "there's ANOTHER Star Wars coming out?"

It will add to the somewhat dim prospects for this movie.

There's that kind of reaction from me every time there is a new Marvel movie but those still manage to be massive successes. I'm only concerned about content/quality control, not oversaturation, at one a year.

Yep. They should just release a new Star Wars film every December and make it a yearly holiday event.

With that said, obviously Disney isn’t content with only releasing one a year and they want to see what happens with a May release to over the way toward what they do with Marvel (multiple films a year).

I also think this Han Solo film is probably the worst standalone they could use for a trial run, considering all the drama surrounding the filming.
