Saw my first clean up crew a few blocks over. Going to take a year at this pace. One tree would take up the trailer. There are dozens of massive oaks just in my immediate area. They would each require multiple trailers. This isn’t even including the branches and random piles of stuff like sheds and fences
Also it looks like they aren’t picking up the paper waste bags. I have 8 and city isn’t resuming normal yard waste pick up until at least December. Guess I’ll just throw them in with regular garbage. At least it’s paper and leaves
Any recs for a Christmas Eve lunch in downtown St Pete? Needs to serve a party of 8 and have vegan/vegetarian and bland Midwesterner options. Probably gonna call Parkshore Grill tomorrow unless someone has a better option.
Stillwaters Tavern is a decent casual restaurant that’s better than most, seems to be what you’re looking for
Barcelona Wine Bar over on Bay to Bay and Westshore is great it’s a chain but all the food is delicious and they run a tight ship over there
Multiple New Years Eves ended at Pete's Place doing karaoke back when I first moved to Tampa in 2010. Always a great time. Haven't been in about as long as you have though.
never been to joy bar not a dive bar, but another place I loved a while back and haven’t been to in years - Hotel Bar downtown
Great spot. Went there a couple years back for the first time. Between there and Hattricks, I would probably be a regular if I had a downtown job.
Love the cheese steak at Hattricks. Used to go there every year after Hunuhpu's Day and get the cheese steak and watch hockey.
After Hunahpu day in 2014(?) I went to Mons Venus and fell asleep and was kicked out. All before the sun went down.
Recs on a good steak? Really liked my meal at the Library a few years ago and went to another nice 1 a few years before but forget the name. Buying for 6 adults and a couple kids so not top top end but something good. Any help would be appreciated, TIA
Does a good steak place that's not at least $30-$50 per plate exist? Berns is the quintessential experience if you're from out of town. People swear by Charley's, but I had such a bad experience from a service standpoint the one time I went that I honestly can't remember the food. Never had a bad steak at Capital Grille, Flemings, or Eddie V's. Never been to Terra Gaucha or Casa Santo Stefano, but I've heard good things and they have great reviews. Both seem to be nice but not as pricey as the other options.
Last time I went to Charley’s was probably the worst service I’ve ever had at an upscale restaurant. Berns is always the move. Steak isn’t the best but I always have a good meal and a good time.
Random thought: Every now and then I think about how Tampa put a fucking convention center on one of their better, if not best pieces of real estate and it bottles my mind. Would love to know the thinking behind that.
Growing up in Tampa since 1987, city planning has always been very poor and not well thought out. When it was built, downtown was not a destination place. It was mostly avoided on nights and weekends until around 2008. I definitely bet they would love to take that decision back now.
Think I've posted similar itt but my dad (does commercial real estate loans) has said the same thing. Post above is on point, it's wild downtown is what it is at this point compared to an absolute ghost town post 6 pm Friday. Us real OGs took the People Mover to Harbour Island back in the day. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harbour_Island_People_Mover
City of Tampa needs to do something else with that property. It's a big footprint, I've wondered if there's a way to re-engineer the current foundation and build it up into a baseball or football stadium. The layout would obviously have to be pretty unique and vertical, but just from looking at satellite images on Google Maps, it's pretty similar in size to Raymond James Stadium. Although even if they could and did do that, gamedays would be a logistical nightmare without improved public transit. A Lightning and Bucs/Rays game on the same day? Yeesh!
I was talking to buddies about this yesterday, but an NBA team sharing Amalie with the Lightning would be awesome
The amount of foot traffic that Lightning games bring to Water St and Sparkman I have to imagine is a major driver of success in the area
Saw a brutal ATV-car crash today by Snowcat Ridge. Believe kid was crossing across a busy road and got blasted, all I saw was stuff flying everywhere and he ended up in a nearby ditch. Hope he makes it, body language of people who went up to him wasn’t good.
Guessing you’re gone? Was some kinda shooting in downtown tonight caution tape and everything when I’m trying to get home, no idea what happened.
