This was the first year sending our kids to real public schools and learning the school schedule was not something that came natural to me or my wife. We are both pretty type B and are prone to doing some dumb shit. So needless to say we were surprised on Good Friday when we got the automatic notification at 10:00 AM from the school that our kindergartener did not show up to school today. I guess since I got the day off we both just assumed they'd cancel school too and the other one checked the schedule. Even worse we have burned up all the "parent excused" absences for vacation so we had to check him in right at lunch. Poor guy was pissed off and happily told his entire class that his parents forgot to take him to school.
I'd have definitely gotten that one wrong as well if I had a kid in the US because we always had Good Friday and Easter Monday off in public school here.
it's basically an absence for no good reason. so you have doctor excused and then they give you 10 free days to take off for vacations/funerals/etc.
i think it's funny that you think me or my wife would be interested in doing the paperwork needed to pull something like that off.
Cmon son. It’s against your particular denominations beliefs to fill out paperwork for religious days.
we had the second to last day blocked off for vacation so in that extremely unlikely scenario we would have just cut the vacation short. i guess there was a week where it could have burned us but what can i say buddy I tend to play fast and loose with the rules.
Also, how old is your kid, 5? What are they going to do if he misses day 11, throw him in kindergarten jail?
Had a medical thing with anaesthesia today and told my wife that I'd be ready for pickup at around 11, but they'd call her 30 minutes out so I could just leave. Apparently her phone was off or on dnd and she didn't even leave until 11:15.
he's six. I opined the same thing to my wife. my guess is they could file some kind of parental negligence investigation if they really wanted to. or they could hinder him going to the next grade. I'm really not sure, but ultimately decided none of it was worth the hustle of dealing with whatever the consequences would have been.
Huh. We don't have those here. We just went through it where we were going on vacation last week (timed around a wedding). It was the last week of school, so my wife called them ahead of time just to let them know our 3rd grader wasn't going to be there those final 4 days. The registrar at the school was acting like it was a huge deal and he he might get penalized or some shit, put our transfer for next year into jeopardy and all this shit. Like the the kids are doing anything those last few days anyway Wife had to call back and talk directly to the principal. Principal was just like "yea, don't worry about it. We won't even count them as absences."
We got a full week off for Mardi Gras so that was always a good time. Horrible logically and basically just an excuse for school staff to be able to rage but LFG.
My wife is a teacher. She has kids who show up about 15-20% of the time. They file it with the state but nothing ever happens. There's literally no recourse so
Oh that whole roster could be done by EOD if I have any meetings here. Who is declining a Starburst offer?
Cherry and strawberry are the two best flavors, and there are consistently fewer of them than fruit punch and watermelon. Fruit punch is meh; watermelon can kick rocks.
Putting this in spoiler since it doesn’t really apply here or anywhere else I just thought it was funny Spoiler One of wifes best friends was in a relationship with then married to some jerk off who ran his mouth about me before I even met him. I basically refused to interact with him etc after. Wife was always upset because she wanted to vacation with them at some point. They’re now getting a divorce. The incorrect answer I said was at least we don’t have to vacation with them anymore
my wife signed my oldest up for summer camps a few months ago. my youngest has care all summer, so activities for the oldest is the only issue. today, my wife sends me a text saying... camp needs forms for the oldest by Friday or he can't go all summer. me: uh, wut? I have received nothing regarding forms. Are emails going to you about this because I'm seeing nothing? her: this is the first email I've gotten me: well thats insane then, to send first emails today expecting full forms by Friday her: when we signed him up, they said they needed forms by June 2nd. her: I've been bringing it up for months me: yea, but we haven't seen the forms. today is the first email I've received about the forms. her: right but they might be in the portal. me: wtf is the portal? you signed them up. did you receive a portal invite, because I didn't? her: thats because I'm the one who signed him up. NO FUCKING SHIT can't wait to hash this out in person when she gets home.
