Been twice. The most crowded lifts have 20-30 min lines at peak times now that they are on Epic. If you are skiing the T Bar and double black terrain it’s up and down as much as you like straight onto the lift. I’d love to be in CB this weekend with the snow they’ve gotten.
Park city’s ski patrol and vail failed to come to an agreement on wage increases last night. how dare the ski patrollers ask to make more entry money than a wal mart greeter from their multi-billion dollar company. I wouldn’t be surprised between that and covid you see segments of PC closed over the next couple of weeks. Also they just canceled in person Sundance, so my best two weeks of skiing aren’t gonna happen this year either.
Y’all be careful out there: just heard a friend of a friend died in a snowboard accident this weekend. He hit a tree. Y’all be smart. Skiing is supposed to be fun, not life threatening.
Just got back from Big Sky. Loved every bit of it. I’m a pretty new skier so I’m not good enough to hit a lot of the mountain (basically the entire upper mountain) but I still loved every bit of it. Great place. We just stayed at the resort there and had no issues finding things to do.
This should’ve been a video game. Too many snowboarding games not enough skiing. This is amazing.. siap
I just extended my trip in Denver. Hitting Keystone where the place we are staying is as well as Copper and Breckinridge most likely. Anything I should make sure to do? I’m just a serviceable skier and have done Keystone before.
Copper is on a different pass, so not sure it makes economic sense to do that separate from Breck + Keystone, but it depends on what pass you're getting. I prefer Copper to the other two as well - less crowded, more of a laid back vibe in my experience. Loveland has its charm as well and you'll drive under it to get to the rest.
We are just doing daily passes and purchased daily for Epic back in the fall at a discount. Only trip out so not too worried about the economics but wanted to try the best ones. Thanks. Excited they added Copper to the list.
just found out my boss has a small apartment in vail village I can use a couple times a year. sweet lord, what a day
I haven't been to Keystone or Copper, but if there is good snow and you want shorter lift lines consider Winter Park. Parsenn Bowl and Mary Jane are a lot of fun.
Gonna be out in big sky in the middle of February. Never been to Montana before so looking forward to the trip
Sativa dominant hybrid cart during the day and a 2:1 THC/CBD edible every night. I have old bones too, will keep ya carving.
Copper came up so I’ll always take the moment to say that Copper is the best bang for your buck/day/weekend in the west if you are on the east coast. Super accessible, affordable, laid back, and has big resort vertical and challenge. just got back from Targhee and Jackson. Has not snowed in 10 days so everything was skiied out. Targhee was unimpressive because of this. Jackson is just visually epic. The skiing was average with lack of snow. Going back in March, if it’s snowed recently or snows while there I cant imagine it not being #1 on my list. on the traverse below Corbets
How has Telluride's snow been the past couple of years and into March? I remember I want to say three years ago they almost had to shut down the season due to a lack of it. I'm thinking about heading there in March either this year or next. Really want to go someplace in CO or UT that won't be frustratingly crowded. Thanks, Vito
We're highly above average on our snow pack at the moment. We seem to always get decent snow amounts in March. It'll be busy everywhere due to spring break but Telluride will be a bit quiter than most other mountains/resorts.
You relatively coordinated and or athletic? Either way I would only do a half day. Lessons are nice but they can't really teach you much in 6 hours that they can't teach in 3. IMO
Do a full day solo on your first day. The big benefit is if you are progressing faster or slower they will be able to adjust to you better.
10 days so far at Meadows. End of December was absolutely amazing, January has been dry and warm. So great bluebird soft snow days but we need some fresh snow. Heading to Keystone in early Feb. Added this to quiver last night: https://www.lib-tech.com/cold-brew
Flying out to Colorado the weekend of Valentine's Day/Super Bowl but unfortunately not skiing. Probably just gonna tube, get high, eat good meals and drink local beers. Lodging is stupid expensive - anybody have any leads or tips on lodging ideas? Was hoping for Breck or even Dillon/Silverthorne area but everything on VRBO was expensive. May end up by Winter Park just due to costs. Hoping people cancel as the date approaches.
first time at Snowbasin and Nordic Valley. highly recommend Snowbasin; even with shit conditions (they need snow badly), it was fun with nice length runs and relatively uncrowded.
Woke up my last day at Steamboat to 6" of fresh powder on the backside. Wasn't predicted so a complete surprise. Sunny snow showers all AM too while we had all the untouched trails we wanted. The sky was sparkling. Best ski day of my life.
For as bad as it’s been regarding no snow, the skiing conditions have actually been sneaky really good. It’s been super cold, and relatively low winds. This week will be crummy with higher temps, but there may be a glimmer of hope in a pattern change coming in about 7-10 days. Just avoid Iron Mountain on the canyons side.
I'm going to Deer Valley this Thursday. It might be a rip a few groomers in the sun and get some beverages kind of trip. A buddy that is local there was saying if it gets sunny that the bumps are fun.
Two days in at Keystone. Bluebird days, was worried snow would be miserable hardpack. It’s definitely hardpack, but rideable. Some of these runs would be absolutely amazing with some fresh snow
Just not getting a ton of snow in CO. Hopefully march brings some powder. Hitting keystone and Breck again this weekend
Loving big sky, got out at about 930 yesterday and skied till 4pm. First time skiing in like 2 years and my legs were shot by the end of the day. Really glad we took today off and are gonna get a full day in tomorrow. Mountain could really use another 12-15 inches of snow, lotta exposed rocks on runs but other than that absolutely beautiful views on runs.
Started exclusively driving through Hood River and it has made my life so much less stressful. Was busy on the mountain but nothing crazy. Expert terrain was open so that helped. No Vista or Cascade. Bet you’ll get those on Thursday.
I haven't skied in 5ish years, going to Keystone for a couple days March 9-10. Would it be worth my time to get a half day morning lesson to get back under my feet and have a refresher? Skiing on a Wednesday and Thursday so I would think the group lesson wouldn't have that many folks and could get more instructor attention. I ski mostly blues but try to steer clear of blacks unless it's not super bumpy.
Depends on your skiing ability. Since you mentioned not really skiing blacks, maybe half a day lessons is the way to go. For more experienced individuals, I would think a couple long blue runs would be enough to get back on the horse.
yeah it would be nice to understand how to effectively ski a bluish black. i think a couple blue runs would do the trick if I didn't do lessons. I'm also skiing solo, which I've never done but will be refreshing to not have to wait on the rest of the group like I usually have to do.
