going to order this off amazon and start getting into vinyl. Can someone please find me the best speakers for 150 or less to go with it that will work? Also do I need to order speaker wire or anything else? I have no clue what all is needed. Thanks Edit got what I needed and ordered https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002GYTPAE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1460821552&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=audio technica turntable&dpPl=1&dpID=41SZ0U2JGlL&ref=plSrch
I have that record player. It comes with an auxiliary chord, so you just need to find a good set of speakers in your price range. I hate my current set up, so I don't have a good suggestion
hey that's the same one I got about a year ago, so far so good, and yeah it comes with the chords you need didn't buy any speakers for it, had some ok ones already at the house so I just play it through them
Ive got the oversized Bose sound dock not in use. It has AUX so I'll start with that. Just ordered the player and my first three records. Goodbye money
http://m.thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-bookshelf-speakers/ I saw these pioneer speakers recommended in a few different places. $127. Welcome to the hobby. It's fun.
I just spent $80 on the Dead RSD release today without giving it a second thought. Meanwhile, there are 1000's of excellent quality shows for free on the archive. This is not a rational thing. But I love it!
yeah, I mean I already have all of the music I'd be buying on vinyl, but fuck it, just appeals to the collector in me
nothing that interesting this year for the stuff i like, but there's been some cool stuff in the past, like when Mastodon covered Feist and vice versa
http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Classic...psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages02 I bought this one the other day. I've been lugging around my parents old records with every move , for the past 10 years, and finally bought something to play them on. Was definitely worth it, I love being able to put on an old Willie Nelson album while I'm fucking about the house.
Grabbed the Son Volt live, Big Star Live, Brandi Carlisle, Tom Petty Live and the Shawn Colvin/Steve Earle 7" this morning. Couple others I'll try and find elsewhere.
They were. Son Volt is "Live from the Bottom Line, Feb 12,1996." Mostly songs from The Trace, with some covers mixed in. Big Star is "Live at the Univ. of Mizzou, 4/25/93."
Love that cover art on the dead release today. Cheapest on eBay is already 125 If you got one of 7,000 for 80 Bones then it's a victory
Didn't buy any of the RSD exclusives because there wasn't a lot left by the time I got there, but I hit the $3 vinyl section hard Tougher Than Leather - Willie Nelson Frank Sinatra (just some random colection) The Road Goes on Forever (double album/greatest hits) - The Allman Brothers Little Feat - Little Feat Can't Slow Down - Lionel Richie It's Hard - The Who On the Threshold of a Dream - The Moody Blues Leon Russel and the Shelter People Leon Russell
yup. You can add an additional tube amp too. I have that setup on one of my systems and I quite like it
Some previous owner actually wrote "Excellent Side" on the Side B song list on the back of the album.
My oldest daughter went to this. It's funny to me how she loves vinyl. When she told me she was going to this I thought it was code for weed drugs with her aunt. Thanks for keeping me hip and with it TMB
I have the Audiotechnica record player hooked up to a Yamaha receiver. I'll post pics in a bit. It's a great set-up.
My Yamaha receiver is almost 20 years old and still great. Wasn't anything special at the time, but just keeps performing well.
i dont know if prog rock has the best art, but it's likely to be cool or bizarre, like that armadillo tank thing up there. the interior art on that album shows it being born from a volcano iirc i'm sure the psychedelic bands and others have cool stuff too
I'd give it some time. In a week or two things will settle down. My buddy scored it for $94 shipped today (not sure where). But prices will come down.
I bought this exact player off a dude on Craigslist and it's worked like a charm for the last year. Welcome to the addiction btw, it's a lot of fun.
Can't stress this enough. Buy used. This would be a good starter rig: Turntable: pioneer pl 12d Cartridge: Denon DL 110, Denon DL 160, or audio technica at440mla (replace stylus if you buy this used) Receiver: any Harman Kardon twin power (430, 730, 930, etc.) OR NAD 3020 Speakers: whatever start with those Pioneer Andrew Jones bookshelves and audition until you find something you really like. Most subjective piece along with cartridge. Vinyl can sound great, but, it can also sound way shittier than any digital format. Buy gear good enough to see what it's all about if you have interest. A lot of the cheap stuff will play LPs but will not do the format justice.
This makes me sad for parents' record collection. They had a lot of vinyl from the late 60s and early 70s that just got lost in time somewhere. Cream, Dylan, the Woodstock collection, classic old country, etc. I was like the kid in Almost Famous listening to that stuff when I was in middle school.
Great thread idea. I picked up an original release Sgt Pepper and Allman Bros live at filmore east last week. Both gently used jackets but sound great.
Figuring out the cartridge along with installing it properly is the hardest part, IMO. Just start listening, and you'll start picking out the flaws / figuring out what you like & don't like. But don't stress over it - it'll sound good for the most part.
