I spooked some chipmunks in my back yard yesterday. One ran right into a rat snake and I sat and watched for about 15 minutes as it suffocated and then ate it. Was pretty awesome to witness in person.
I’ve come across multiple wild snakes feeding, including an eastern diamondback consuming a rabbit, but have never seen them in action. What an incredibly special experience. I’m very jealous and glad someone who appreciates that got to experience it.
It was pretty surreal. Seeing the actual capture and devouring was something else. The sounds the chipmunk made when it was first caught weren't pleasant, but still an amazing thing to witness.
It’s always hard to watch suffering but you have to realize there are no sides out there. No good and no bad. Just instinct and the will to survive no matter how stacked the odds are against you. And the absolute worst thing you can ever do is play god and dictate how the situation ends.
Sadly I wasn't able to get pics as we were at a neighbors but caught the coolest juvenile grey rat snake last month. I've never seen one so close to being white. The redneck in me wanted to take it home for photos and shit
This is a varanid, not a tegu. I’m also pretty sure it’s a rubbery pete https://www.ebay.com/itm/1956087169...x7TobuZZDKKL8_vM5aZ3sJ9CeauiwGSwaApdeEALw_wcB
Yo! That was south of the wall(literally), but in Texas near Roma Texas. I’m not an expert on reptiles, I’ll defer to owsley. pretty sure that’s a Texas indigo? I think the second- think, been wrong enough to say think(bird guy, and still mis ID stuff often, even now. I think the second one is a diamondback water snake. Pretty sure, first one I’ve ever seen.
So geeked on that, from last week. I old have snake pics, if I get motivated. I was also lying about that I don’t know a lot about snakes, but not my speciality. Always best to slow play it, no one likes a know it all. have a pic of the equis “the x” -in Panamanian Spanish before Elon rebranded twitter. Fer-de-lance. Bothrops Asper . Look at me owsley. I’d italicized it if I could. let me see if I can find this, but I have a picture of a crazy motherfucker holding an equis. Cody, he ultimately got bit by a snake. Was nasty. No fucking way I’d grab one of those things. Ever. Capital E. Necrosis, that a hard pass from me.
I’ve also stood like 3 feet from a Mozambique spitting cobra. I am not bullshitting you. hard snake flex. Also true
Not really digging phang dirtball? But the bears suck, so we cool. how do I link peoples names on this postboard by the way?
Im mostly familiar with snakes in Georgia and surrounding areas but think that 2nd one is a banded water snake (of which they are common south of the fall line in GA)
Ran across this pretty girl this morning. Was fairly well behaved for a Nerodia as well, though I do have the sweet scent of musk on my arms and hands.
Coachwhip and prairie rattlesnake. Not my photo, but it popped up on a snake forum I frequent and thought y’all would enjoy and appreciate it.
Pretty sure it was an Eastern Racer, 2 types of water snake, and Ring-necked. We immediately release them right where we found them.
