I think you were 0-5 in conference play when that Michigan game happened and I remember thinking...how is this team that I'm watching right now, winless? Could see there was something there. Not like a really good team, but certainly not a bad team.
Our loss to Ohio State was probably the worst game I’ve ever seen in my life. We shot 12/28 on 3-pointers and 12/27 on free throws. We had so many chances to ice the game with free throws and couldn’t make any if them. Then a guy purposely fouls an OSU guard in the back court with like 5 seconds to go in OT because he thought our 2 point lead was 3. The trick to us winning is trailing until it’s too late for free throws. But we also have some players that are incredibly inconsistent from game to game and frankly possession to possession.
I had never heard of this Rigsby kid before last Saturday but I have nothing but hate in my heart for him now.
Most of the time he doesn’t do much. But if he hits a basket then he probably goes for 10-20. And he is a white kid with legit hops that surprises you the first time you see it. Shit like this:
Yeah I saw in the prior 5 games before ours he had like 3 total points. Then goes off for 20 against us and hits the game winner.
He did something similar to Penn State. I think he went like a month without scoring and then went 5/5 with 2/2 from 3 and 2/2 on FT.
congrats on your thread rights, Vinegar Strokes you put the extra time in the gym this year and earned it. First and last post each day etc
Tom is always the guy big ten media asks about coaches on the hot seat. Don't think he's ever answered much differently than this
I don’t know why reporters ask about coaches about other coaching hot seats because they’re all going to say something like that. Coaches will never criticize another coach because they feel like they themselves don’t deserve any criticism. It’s an exercise in futility. Tommy Lloyd basically called Craig Smith’s kids heroes for still participating in Utah team activities after Utah had the gall to pay him 5M dollars to go away because he’s been really bad there. Edit: I’ve made it pretty clear I loathe Iowa but it’s bullshit to shame Iowa fans for wanting more when Fran has been there 15 years and hasn’t reached the second weekend of the tournament once. That’s unacceptable. Fran is a big boy, he should be criticized for that.
If they fire him, I hope the style is more entertaining than Lickliter. Although another Little Lick nepo baby would be funny. Iowa coaches having kids on the team/staff is a ridiculous trend.
After all the outrage we saw the other day in the football thread about Ford Field's decision to bump some high school games back a day, I thought for sure we'd see the same folks criticizing Michigan today for sending a 15-man demolition crue to East Lansing intent on destroying the Breslin Center rims less than a week before the MHSAA basketball finals. I've never seen so many torpedoes launched directly into the iron. So who really hates the MHSAA?
Dusty May is a piece of shit. Should have just owned it after the game instead of playing dumb and pretending he didn’t know.. He knew of the tradition, and I’m willing to bet the life long MSU fan that was begging for an MSU offer knew of the tradition as well (#8 on Michigan). how come he didn’t have guys on the free throw line at the top pic?
The funny thing about this is that their likely #1 target would bring his kid with him if he came. I personally would like them to go after McCollum but the rumor mill is that they'd go hard after Devries at WVU.
Michigan State has a long-standing senior day tradition where the seniors are subbed out one at a time and kiss the spartan helmet at mid court on their way out to a standing ovation. This is done in both wins and losses. BTN has done a 60 minute special on it and the tradition has spread to numerous other sports. It's one of the most important athletic traditions we have. https://www.bigtenplus.com/en-int/video/the-b1g-story-kissing-the-floor/1722946 Today, after getting their ass beat, petulant wolverines chose to act like wannabe tough guys and stand at midcourt in an attempt to prevent it from happening. A real tough guy, Minneapolis native Tre Holloman, pushed them out of the way. As this was the only time Michigan players stood there during a free throw, it appears to have been directed by their coaching staff. In post game, Dusty May responded and failed to take accountability for the petty move.
Michigan State has a 30yr old tradition where seniors effectively plant our own flag at our own center court. Michigan players tried getting in the way of that instead of winning the game to stop it which we can all agree is the proper way of settling such disputes
He complained to the refs that it took too long, made some comments in the post game to the same effect. Wasn't a big deal.
It is curious that there's one common denominator in these dust-ups within our highly decorated, mostly respected conference.
maybe If Nebraska wasn’t a dog shit basketball program, you’d have some traditions too. I’ll try to dumb it down for you next time. what are you the 2nd or 3rd best program in your shitty state?
Thanks. I’m familiar with the kissing the Spartan/center court tradition. When I read free throw ‘formation’ I was thinking where players stood on the outside of the paint during the FT. That was confusing.
Everyone on both sides of that looks petty and/or whiny, but that’s appropriate for a rivalry. Seems dumb and petty that Michigan would do that and seems dumb that Michigan State would get that mad when your tradition relies on the opponent not standing on a part of the court they are allowed to stand on during the game. So anyway, good rivaling. And yes, my Alma mater is very unsuccessful in college basketball. Nebrasketball is my favorite sports team bar none and I’m a season ticket holder. And I really enjoy college basketball.
We got ourselves a both sides bad. Yeah MSU should have just let it go. Maybe tongue the opposite baseline instead
Don’t know what Vine was arguing but I see nothing wrong with a couple Michigan players standing at half court during some meaningless free throws.
that’s a bad take they were intentionally trying to interfere with an annual senior day tradition that dates back to 1995. You can think the tradition is dumb or that it takes longer than normal substitutions should take, but defending their petty behavior is stupid
What’s the tradition and how did the Michigan players prohibit it? He walked up and just hit them per the video.
The full video from this year is above. Fidler took the path of least resistance and kissed the side of the logo. He’s only been there one year so who cares. But, the seniors have been doing it on senior day every year since Respert. 30 years and no one has tried to get in the way. It’s beyond idiotic to play dumb and say “we can stand wherever we want - what’s the issue?” I do agree Dusty May doesn’t understand the tradition tho as evidenced by him saying “they deserve to rub our noses in it” it has nothing to do with rubbing an opponent’s nose in anything. Win or lose on senior day it’s the culmination of their career and an opportunity to get a standing ovation while they say their farewell to the fans
The opposing team should have face guarded Haslem as he went around shaking his teammates’ hands on the court as he was checking out of the game here: as long as they stay on the court, they would be following the rules. Are they not allowed to do that in the rulebook?
This is a natural outgrowth of the woke liberal agenda. Kissing basketball courts is just part of the + in LGBTQ+ and it is not surprising sissy boy Vinegar Strokes is upset that these Michigan Men were trying to uphold traditional American values. Pathetic.
I addressed this. Fildler and Zapala are one year very mid, grad transfers. Doubt it meant much to them. while Fidler was kissing it, Holloman and Akins told them to move before the four year player Akins got his turn. Akins has largely been shit this year, but he deserves his moment. playing dumb here is childish shit. They knew exactly what they were doing. If you want to be a prick to your in state rival, just own it
Ok so where you kiss the logo correlates to how much it means to you? I was unaware of this nuance to the tradition. Thank you for clarifying.
How long before a Michigan state congress member files legislation to make it a felony to stand on the spartan logo during the last timeout on senior day?
