It’s awesome the cubs probably need to acquire 3 high leverage relievers to be contenders in October because our GM has no idea how to build a bullpen
We’re probably going to win the Central. Because the lineup is clearly the best in the division by far and rotation while not great, is deep. But this bullpen is going to repeatedly cause me to want to rip out my hair.
I'm falling in love with this team... Shitty pen arms and all. Fantastic game... D'Backs are a really good team. This early schedule is just brutal. I do think Ricketts will open the wallet come trade deadline. Also SIGN Tucker! Its the perfect match!
they absolutely should build this team around Kyle Tucker for the next 10 years. His presence in the lineup is transformational
Got excited when I saw they traded for a bullpen arm… and then realized it was Drew Pomeranz who hasn’t pitched in the majors in more than 4 years
3 errors on fairly routine plays in limited work. Send this guy back to Detroit. Matt Shaw could at least play defense.
The lack of strikeouts from the pen is extremely concerning, but I still think there is a path to a decent pen from this group. Hodge is closer to the pitcher we saw tonight than the shitty position they put him in last Friday. Pressly has been more than serviceable the last few weeks. Merryweather has shown flashes of his 2023 performances. Hopefully brasier can be a high leverage guy when he comes back too.
Just need to get to May 12th. Then we get 21 games straight against Miami, White Sox, Reds, Rockies, and Nationals.
One of my vendors has season tickets and offers them up first come first serve, I snagged the seats for the Memorial Day game for the GF and I. Are there any stand out games through the season that I should request before he offers them to all of his customers?
- July 4th vs Cardinals - Mid July weekend series vs Red Sox - Late September midweek series vs Mets - Late September weekend series vs Cardinals (if division is still competitive) There are probably some others but there stood out to me on a cursory look at the schedule.
I missed that Red Sox series when I quick looked at the schedule, GF's dad is from Boston so they are big Sox fans, hooking that up will score some major points.
Were a very good team... Clearly we can play with the top teams in baseball. Its also April and we have a long fucking way to go. What's clear... Go get a bullpen arm and a front line starter. This team should compete for a world series.
Its a very small sample size but Sandy's numbers don't look that great... And the asking price is steep. I would be looking at other options.
Pablo Lopez still makes the most sense to me. He’s safer than Sandy and Minnesota is terrible and actively trying to shed payroll. The fact Lopez makes 21M is going to significantly lower the prospect price. The only issue there is that I have a really hard time believing they’re going to go into the tax this year, but if you trade for him at mid season, a pro-rated 21M aav shouldn’t be too much of an issue. According to Spotrac they have roughly 28M in space to the tax line, so they could add Lopez’s salary and a reliever or two.
Horton with 5 Ks, 1 BB, 2 Hits, and 0 runs. He needs to stretch out a little more as he only went 76 pitches but he’s looking more and more ready each day.
Seiya getting scratched is a bummer. He’s just very fragile unfortunately. Hopefully this wrist thing doesn’t linger because it’s already popped up twice
