I don’t see HIC listed. https://www.instagram.com/stories/b...rce=ig_story_item_share&igsh=N3ZrMWt0cTNkZmli
Not a very popular pick so far, but the labels and wax color are pretty great on most. Usually wax is baby blue. I think it is the only bottle that Keef ever resold as an open.
Sounds like 2/3rds of that party agrees CFB is a silly, barbaric sport and we’ll slam drams while watching futbol or curling. I’m in.
If anyone is interested in a 17 year, 126 proof Obtanium Light Whiskey (8 MGP barrels that were casked and aged at Stitzel when Diageo owned both. And toted for transport purposes.) for 80 + label, let me know. Notes from pick team below Spoiler Nose- Slight sweetness to it like a candy. Ethanol is present but not overwhelming. Palate- Sweet Buttercream frosting up front that turns into a punch of proof and aged oakiness but in a pleasant way. Fairly strong mouthfeel and viscosity especially for a light whiskey. Slight drying effect that makes you crave another sip of delicious liquid candy in rapid succession. Finish- The mouth tingle from the oak and proof lasts a really long time, where the flavors last 10-20 seconds, the finish lasts several minutes.
I personally liked them but I never had the younger Rio to compare them to. It's not an overly complex pour or anything but I find it enjoyable.
Have heavily pulled back on the whiskey buying in the last 2 years but for really interesting bottles. Grabbed a Bombergers and Shenks recently. Also got a JD BP Rye, a Campfire, and a MWND. That's the bottles for the year, basically. Seems like whiskey is on the other side of the craze similar to what happened to craft beer.
I think it's on the decline overall. I don't think the really sought after stuff will ever be obtainable again. But there is a lot of good stuff that is somewhat attainable now.
It’s different now, a lot of really good stuff being released but most of it isn’t by the big brands. Sure their LEs are still great but the day to day stuff isn’t.
Had a bottle of Basil Hayden I got as a gift that was just sitting, so I bought a gallon jug of apple cider and poured out about 1/3 and filled it up with the bottle of BH and some cinnamon sticks. Gonna bring it along to share with the other dad's during trick or treating tonight.
Add a little clove/orange slice and heat it up imo. Crock pot hard mulled hot apple cider is an elite trick or treating drink.
Trick or treating last night with the kids, a house was handing out beer or bourbon to the adults. They had Bulleit Rye, I had never had it before and wasn't sure what to expect, but not half bad for a sipper while walking around.
Had a similar situatuon, but it was Jack Daniels. I forgot how much I dislike black label Jack Daniels.
Have a work conference in Louisville next week, the group is doing a tour of Evan Williams one afternoon. Anyone done this? Not sure they having anything worth a damn to buy?
I think Evan Williams is pretty hit or miss. They didn't have anything when I was there. You might try and go to Michters when they first open if you are able to. They have been putting out the 10 year bourbon sporadically from what I've heard.
I would 100% snagged it if they had it when I was there. They didn't even have the most recent ECBP when I was there.
EW 12 is overrated at the price. I believe if u do the tour they give you a sample. Run over to Old Forester after. Head to Neat if you want to drop some $$$ on some old dusty pours.
