I really just dries out the wipes. The baby accessory industry is an absolute gold mine because of the number of mothers that will irrationally justify purchases...as long as it’s for their baby it’s totally worth it and they need it

My wife refuses to let his go. Still wears it most nights at 2.5. I joke he’s gonna go to his first sleepover and be like “wait y’all don’t wear a dress to bed?”

Son #2 came this afternoon. Being the veteran dad that I am, things went great through the c-section.

I then passed out while he was being weighed and had to be gurney’d out of the room. Nurses made jokes the rest of the afternoon about me not being able stay on my feet.

My(just turned)2 yr old wears a sleep sack just so she doesn’t climb out of the crib. We actually have to put them on backwards because she will unzip/wriggle out otherwise. She even Hulk Hogan ripped one last week when it was on backwards, so we have to stay with the thicker material ones.

My son wore a sleep sack until around 2 I guess then we gave him a blanket and pillow. Don’t remember the exact timeline. He never climbed out of the bed. Gave him a full size bed a few months before he turned 3.

When we were transitioning him out of the swaddle we tried one of those Merlin’s Magical Sleep Suits which was hilarious. I called it his space suit

This must be a common thing. When my wife started pushing I was in charge of one leg...during a rest period I figured I'd be standing for a bit so I decided to start stretching my neck and back to settle in for the long haul. A nurse immediately got me a chair and thought I was going to pass out.

Also would suggest the Magic Merlin suit when you're weaning off swaddling.

Didn't read all the posts about kids busting out of swaddling but we had a lady come over about a couple months after our daughter was born to help us kind of get our crap straight since we were struggling with the completely lack of schedule. She showed us how to use a strong blanket and a swaddling technique that babies can't break out of, basically don't worry about swaddling too tight. After that and getting her on a schedule that we basically never deviated from things got a bit easier.

Your son and my son are the same on the dinosaur front. We went to an animatronic dino exhibit at the Tampa Zoo a few weeks back, and before I can sound out in my head the name of a dinosaur I didn't recognize, he yells out "Oh my gosh! A Quetzalcoatlus!"

Yesterday, my son was asking for his 392nd snack of the day. After I ignored a couple of asks, he looked me dead in the eyes and as serious as can be said "if you don’t get me a snack, I'm going to eat myself. "

that sounds like something my son would say.

he also likes to yell “You’re not my best friend anymore” when he’s mad at me.

Even though I’m never his best friend. Kid is the definition of a mama’s boy

He's now 6, but a few years ago his daycare teacher sent us a video of him up in front of the class teaching class about dinosaurs, just giving names and descriptions of all kinds of dinosaur
The teacher was amazed at how much he knew just off the top of his head

First I got my 7 yr old daughter in to Star Wars via Clone Wars and Rebels.

Now she's getting in to Marvel via 90s Spider-Man (GOAT) and Ultimate Spider-Man.

So previously talked about getting the 3 y/o into video games. Got him started on Lego Marvel superheros which he LOVES. even if we don't "play" the story. He just likes running around as a superhero and climbing ladders.

But as far as sports games I thought we were years off. BUT then I dusted off Waybe Gretzky 3d hockey for N64 and it's perfect. Scoring is easy...no complex rules...your teammates get the puck for you. All you have to do is skate in one direction and shoot.

And the AI rarely steals the puck from him. And the arcade style we actually kinda legit compete. I just promise not to do fancy things like one timers and we go back and forth.

Welcome to sports gaming kid. May give NBA jam a whirl.

Only thing I've been able to get to work is to get him near sleep then have my wife hold his arms down while I swaddle him twice with two sheets.

Our son hates being swaddled. We have a SNOO that he sleeps in and it has been great. He’s 8 weeks and will sleep 7-10 hours straight through the night in it but if he’s up he does not like being in an actual swaddle

It sucks sometime being a step parent. As I'm the only one that can work from home and have always gotten off work early, I pick up my step son early everyday he's not at his dads and take him bike riding, playing baseball, and swimming and doing all the goofy games kids like. He just turned five and has picked up negative sayings from his half sister about how step dads aren't good so he sometimes gives me comments about me not being a real dad. It just sucks as he dad forgets to show up to any events at his school or do anything with him. He forgets its his day to get him so I go and pick up him late from school and he's mad at me that I forgot to get him. On top of that his dad just bought him an electric dirt bike (he's five) so now I always have to hear about how much he likes it at his dad. Feel like being the best step dad I can is sometimes the most unappreciated position in the world. End of rant.

He’s five and doesn’t understand life yet. Keep doing what you’re doing, in 10 or so years he will realize and see what you’ve done for him and will appreciate it at that point.

good job stepping up when you really don’t have to, speaks volumes on the type of person you are. :beerchug:

13 days in and boy #2 is wayyy harder than #1.

I remember #1 sleeping in 2-3 hour stretches once he went down from the get go. Last night, #2 had two 2-hour stretches but was crying or fussing besides that. Is that normal?

A week away from our due date and LadyPokes is ready to pop. Her blood pressure has been measuring a little high (it’s normal when she’s not at the hospital) and she’s over 35, so they’ve offered her induction several times to avoid preeclampsia and old-age delivery issues. She wants to do it naturally if possible.

I web-doctor-searched this interesting tidbit from Wikipedia about methods of preventing preeclampsia:

    B690F24C-D4B8-4833-AB41-7788F01685CC.jpeg

Unfortunately my medical insights were not well-received. Can’t help a patient who doesn’t want to help herself I guess :feelsbadman:

Thank you for this great info. Seems to make sense to me. Will be disappointed with the response. We are about 9 weeks out from due date. Blood pressure spikes every time she goes to the doctor. Measures fine any time we check it at home And all tests show all is fine. Also in that 35+ crowd so has caused a stir every time it shows high. Good luck with everything.

    To you as well!

If your partner’s BP keeps trending high but she shows no other issues, they’ll prob just sit on it and wait. Then when she gets closer to her date they’ll run some labs and look at her protein markers. If she doesn’t have 2 out of 3 positive indicators between protein, BP, and other physical symptoms (headache, excessive swelling, low platelet count, etc...), then they’ll prob chalk the high BP up to nerves and let you two make the call.

We’ve thought about early induction a lot, many of LadyPokes female physician friends went that route, but ultimately she decided the benefits weren’t substantial enough to outweigh the risks (painful and extended labor, increased correlation with some developmental disorders, etc...). We’ll schedule one if she goes past her due date though.

It’s probably due to nerves. My wife’s was through the roof but with having to go to the dr, find parking, and worrying about covid or anything being wrong her’s would be through the roof because she was anxious af. They’d take it again later in the visit and it would always be much lower
