Went to Buybuybaby today, got told about a website by one of the managers for their discounts coupons and that you can stack bed bath and beyond coupons on top of them. www.retailmenot.com.

Ended up getting a glider that the wife liked for super good price after she told us they stack so ended up getting 40% off on top of the marked down price. (just proves how much fucking markup is in the game).

Was told about these but they were all sold out so we'll get one eventually.

    my son loves “Ohh No”

also screaming “digger” all the time, like top of his lungs with incredible excitement. We live in an African American neighborhood and he’s gotten quite the looks from our neighbors. There is a lot of construction and “diggers” are all over the neighborhood

The other morning I was on the ground playing with our daughter and I made a terrible fart and our almost 2 yr old said "Daddy Poop?"...she then proceeded to pull at the back of my jeans to look at my ass crack like anyone does to her when she makes a stink. It was both a high light and a low light for me.

We never baby proofed cabinets or drawers. My wife’s philosophy was that we had to teach them not to go in cabinets because they would be at grandparents, friends, etc that weren’t baby proofed. I accepted it because it was easier. It was fine with our first. I regret it with our second.

Bought the first thing that popped up on Amazon. Simple and effective. We only use them for the cabinets with cleaning products. I agree with Rabid sentiment that kids need to learn not to get in that shit. But not worth risking with the toxic stuff.

Get a baby monitor that is just a baby monitor. No online, wifi, app bullshit. Just buy whatever is top rated on Amazon.

Get 2-3 plastic containers for bottle parts for the dishwasher. There’s plenty on Amazon. I have two Oxo ones and they’ve been great.

Standardize on one brand of bottle. We have the philips avent. I recommend the plastic ones over glass; I’ve had several instances where the glass ones didn’t stay tight and I had milk/formula spill on me.

In addition to the nose frieda that was posted, that company also sells a little tube you shove up your kids ass to help relieve gas. Only used once or twice but it’s nice to have available when you’re running through the mental checklist of “why the fuck is my kid crying?”

If you have a smart thermostat (I have a Nest), buy a remote temp sensor for when your kid moves to their own room. At night I just set it to keep the kid’s room at like 73-75 degrees.

We actually had an Arlo camera and a normal baby monitor. Normal monitor for day to day as the wifi isnt as responsive and annoying waiting for feed to load. Wifi one was nice when we had sitters to check on them remotely or if you’re away from the monitor and too lazy to go get it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sorry but I love the wifi monitor. I can look in on Levi if I am having a poopy day at work and somehow my work day instantly gets better.

That’s the best of both worlds tbh.
Baby monitors aren’t designed for people who aren’t home. It’s a nice benefit you can do that, but it’s secondary. You want something that’s always on, reliable, and works with zero latency. Anything routing through a server and a phone/tablet doesn’t really offer that.

I should add, our toxic stuff is on an elevated shelf on a closet adjacent to the kitchen. We also put a rubber band on a cabinet door that could create a mess if a kid got into it. By the time our son could get into the cabinet it wasn’t an issue.

So I bought the Arlo camera but it sucks bc you have to have WiFi and use your phone. If you go outside it’s a pain. So you might get a regular monitor as well.

Also I got the Wyze camera after the Arlo and I like it almost better than the Arlo (Arlo was way more expensive).

Edit: when I say sucks I am waaay over reacting. The camera is great and being able to check in where ever is awesome but for monitoring while he sleeps upstairs, it’s a pain to have to leave the app running on your phone. I did as mentioned and we have the WiFi camera and the Philips baby monitor.

Also we tried to give our little guy a haircut tonight and he was not a fan.

On the plus side though he is now at the stage where he loves screaming excitedly at the top of his lungs. It’s not great when my wife is trying to catch up on some sleep.

Honestly the best monitor once they get past 6 months or so is the cheap sound monitor on Amazon. Bought one for both my parents houses so I don’t have to lug them everywhere. Their coverage is way longer And they keep a charge a lot longer than any video.

I was thinking about this earlier and remembered a suggestion.

They sell these fans with rechargeable batteries which attach to the seat rest in a vehicle to aim at your kid on warm days when in his car seat.

They look like this (turn off as blocker)

Battery Operated Stroller Fan Flexible Tripod Clip On Fan with 3 Speeds and Rotatable Handheld Personal Fan for Car Seat Crib Bike Treadmill (Blue)

Well we ended up using it at his changing station. We had some pretty bad rashes early on and what we realized was we were using the sensitive wipes and then immediately putting the diaper back on and we didn’t realize it wasn’t fully dry yet.

We started using the fan on him after wiping him up and before putting the diaper cream on and it made a huge difference. He wasn’t always a fan of the cooler air on his bare butt however the rashes cleared up almost immediately.

Honestly, when my 2nd grade daughter was remote, she did better than in person. Alot less wasted time and when she got her stuff done she could read/watch a little TV or play some games.

Although my daughter is a better student than I ever was.

It’s very little work and when he gets bored he just gets up and walks away from the class. His 2 year old sister being around doing things, usually making immense messes, doesn’t help.

On Monday I banished mom to the guest room, dialed up some long podcasts, and commenced with cold-turkey sleep training. First nights were brutal, and I know I’m jinxing the fuck out of myself, but he got progressively better up to last night when he crushed 8-6 straight through.

Oh you sweet, sweet sleep, how long I’ve missed you.

Had to do the same. I had to take on eliminating a midnight feeding by slowly going with smaller bottles. Well night 2 I couldnt see the bottle for shit and ended up leaving the room after maybe 2 ounces. Night 3 he slept straight through. :feelsgoodman:

My son only slept through the night like one week, now he is back to up every night about midnight or one. At least its consistently only up once a night. He's 3 months old.

We never really could swaddle him because he could roll over at 4 days old in a swaddle, but we do have him in like a weighted blanket type sack made for babies.

Speaking of rolling over, he learned how to roll over today for the first time not in a swaddle. He hates it when he does roll over though, we spent like 25 minutes with him rolling over, freaking out, us helping back over and repeat.

Yeah RSV is one of those things that you just can't avoid if your kids are in daycare for the first few years of their lives. It sucked because our daughter was about 8 months old and had a bad cough, she got it again next year I believe and it was a lot less intense.

Good luck. RSV sucks but the good news is it rarely requires hospitalization. Hanging out in a bathroom with a hot shower running to create steam is the best way to open up the airway if it’s bad. Sleeping with a humidifier on will help prevent it getting to that point.

I would sleep in another room with the monitor to ween your wife off it. We are looking into a different monitor for #2 that says it doesn't alert you for every little whine only activates when its a serious cry.

Huge shoutout to single parents. My wife is awaiting gallbladder surgery and by the time I get home from work, she can hardly do anything but sit or lay down and cry. It started on Dec 23rd and is getting progressively worse. So for about the past 2 weeks, I get home from working all day, only to take over 100% of the duties at home from after work until bed time. I am at the end of my rope. I could not imagine being the solo parent and doing that day after day with no end in sight.

Wife is meeting with surgeon tomorrow. Do not get me started on what is taking so long, fucking insurance. Hopefully they can still get her in this week so she can get some relief and get about recovering.

So I am dealing with that right now. We started sleep training weeks ago and it went well however the challenge was the middle of the night wakings. My wife would run to check on him as he was still sleeping in our room.

After a couple weeks we have undone all the work we did. So I made the decision yesterday to move our little one upstairs and sleep in the guest room. I took the monitor with me and now I am getting up to check on him when he wakes up in the middle of the nights. Last night was the first night and it was ok.

Best part is my wife is getting some real sleep for the first time in six months and I am able to make sure she isn’t picking him up and encouraging him to scream when he wakes up. Plus he is learning to fall sleep independently.

The SleepTrain Reddit is really solid and helpful. We did Ferber to start but have transitioned to CIO Extinction due to our guy going ape shit when we would go check on him. We now just talk through the monitor at the intervals so he hears our voice.

Let me know if you have any questions.
