My oldest broke his leg when he was 11 months trying to run down a steep slide at the playground. Should have been a sign of things to come. He’s had stitches 4 times now and he’s 8. Completely wild… and I love it
17 Broken bones: 5 Stitches / Staples: 3x, most notably getting hit with a drone during the filming of a Netflix pilot in LA
10 year old has somehow only broken one bone (leg) And 5 stitches from taking a baseball bat to the face when he stood to close to his buddy when busting up pumpkins after Halloween
I dread the day one of our kids has a serious injury. hell, I dread every day right now. Straight up not having a good time with 3 under 3.
When we had our 3rd kid our daughter was at 2 years 9 months. With twins, I can’t imagine how much sleep you’re not getting.
Your oldest is nearly the same age as my middle kid, it should get much easier over the next year as she gains some autonomy.
Had 4 boys 5 and under at one point (no twins). Oldest will be turning 8 in a few months and the youngest just turned 2. Can confidently say you’ll come out of the fog, just takes some time. Hang in there!
6 years old, glue once, stitches once Stitches he was 3 racing his friend where the finish line was apparently a brick house and he ran directly into the protruding window ledge. Thanksgiving day just before dinner.
Mini Delta got attacked in a football game parking lot last night. Freshman in HS. She’s fine and keeping details vague cuz I’m going to be pushing for a police report but basically got grabbed on her way to the bus, she elbowed the guy in the gut, and he let go and ran off. She’s obviously freaked out. School handled it as well as they could in the moment; got her back to the school safely (away game), admin is aware of the incident and are going to follow up on Monday. As I said I’m pushing for a police report even though I know nothing will come of it, if only to get it on record for if something happens again at that school, or hopefully some kind of security will be added.
Dude you're playing the game on Heisman or at least All American. It would be weird if you weren't getting your ass kicked
Just had a reverse Hodor situation. I had the nerve to take a shit in my bathroom and close the bathroom door. Midway through, my 2.5 year old daughter starts shaking the door violently and screaming "Open the door!" over and over . And that went on for the remainder of my shit. I should call her O-Dor although something resembling odor isn't nice for a little girl.
Never going to get used to picking up the kid around 4:30 and it being dark for a few months. Seeing the local HS CC team running in the complete dark for practice fucks with my brain.
Well he said with kids and you have a kid so maybe think about that. It’s also possible natty has no idea what time zone he’s in.
Only problem is this morning my kid didn't give a shit about the time change and got up at 6am instead of 7.
the latter is correct. I don’t care what we stay in, just don’t make me change clocks twice a year and my kids wake up at 5am.
Hank Jr asking a million questions about why he has to go to school. Responding devolved into us working and needing money bc everything has a cost. Hank Jr: "hugs don't cost anything!"
I was on a guy's trip last weekend and didn't come home until Monday. The first questions my wife asked when she saw me on Monday... "So, did you guys plan this trip because it was DST?" "When did you realize it was the same weekend as DST?" I guess the 3 and 5 yr old were up at like 445-5 both Sunday and Monday.
Is this the thread where we ask advice about colleges? My kid is starting the process and I could use advice from parents that have been through it
Kid is a high achiever, what resources are out there to look for scholarships? How did your kid go about narrowing down a list of schools? Did you set up visits or just go walk around campuses? Did you go on official visits, if so how do you do that. When is the best time to do that?
All good questions for scholarships it seems like a lot are managed through sites at the universities for merit and need once you are accepted. Merit schollies based on scores/gpa are delivered a the time they say they are accepted. Also high school counselors seem to have access to them around here. Narrowing down schools and visits was some of the hardest parts. At first he wanted to go farther from home and knew he wanted to go to a big school so that helped. We did a massive driving tour from Chicago to the southeast and hit a ton of large and even a few smaller schools. No official visits just getting on campus, getting a feel and then visiting the town to get a feel of that. I think we hit 8 in about 5 days. Some he loved and one we drove into town and he knew it wasn’t a fit so we just kept driving. We tried to tie in fun things but he was adamant it was a business trip. After that he did some of his own research and reached out to students at a lot of the schools even if it was a loose connection to get their insights. once he narrowed it down to a top 3 we did the official visit route and that was the deciding factor for him. He was blown away by the different programs different schools offered to help or not really help students. Official visits are just set up through the school websites. From what we are seeing we were way ahead of a lot of his peers in doing a lot of this his junior year and having a decision in October puts him at the front of the line for housing options etc. Applications was a total shit show since you can go through the school or the aggregator app. We did all directly through the school and he would get responses in a week or max two weeks. The kids who did the aggregator app are still waiting in some cases. We did this at the end of summer between junior and senior year. we were lucky as he is a pain in the ass but is a high achiever as well. In many cases he was getting accepted prior to the official transcripts arriving and was accepted everywhere he applied. any other questions just let me know.
I don't know your financial situation, but if there's a plan to take out student loans, really take the time to educate him on what that looks like after college. Especially if he plans on getting a post-bachelor's degree or going out state. I would have approached grad school a bit differently had I had that knowledge (i.e. probably wouldn't have gone).
All things said and done he decided on Mizzou. There were a lot of factors that we all really appreciated and were blown away by the amount of student support given. I think the southern schools we visited all kind of fell off as he spoke with people he knew at those schools and the cultural differences just became too much for him. We were lucky he had the pick of where he wanted to go so there wasn’t a school he really wanted to go to that he didn’t get accepted into.
Little Kiddo went for 5 year check up. I’ve mentioned it before but he has gone through feeding therapy between 2-3 and hes much better now but still extremely picky. He’s also pretty small but always slightly growing. anyway, height has gone below his chart now so being referred to an endocrin. Wouldn’t be surprised if he needs HGH. Between the feeding issues, SLP, needing to do a psyche evaluation, and now this I just feel really bad for him. edit: but maybe once he’s done he will start smashing big dingers
I’ve had a squeegee in my trunk for fucking ever and I finally got to be the hero today by getting all the puddles off the slide at the park
Those of you who live in snow can hopefully relate to this. Woke up this morning at 6:30 AM to go shovel my driveway and sidewalk after another 8-10” of concrete snow fell last night. There’s no better feeling than a freshly shovelled driveway, especially when you’re the first on done on the street. Came back inside and poured myself a beer.
Nothing better than firing up the snowblower at 5a after a solid workout and clearing the drive. I agree!
I just picked up 10 bins of sticks and leaves in almost 90 degree weather. Shoveling snow sounds like a dream. Might have myself a diet baja blast
