That’s the best way to go about it imo. It’s taboo to say but you need to treat marriage like a business venture
Yeah there’s actually a lot of research out there that supports a portion of your check both going into a joint account that joint expenses come out of (as well as take a portion and put into savings) and the rest go into separate checking accounts. So take 50% of each check into the joint account that the mortgage, groceries, utilities etc come out of, 20% to savings, and 30% to a separate account that only you (or her) has access to. Want to buy a super nice car? Sweet. As long as it fits into your 30%, all good.
I like drinking and gambling and sporting events, she likes shopping and wine. We spend a similar amount and it works great. Another thing we do (not sure if this is truly considered separate accounts) but if we find a good CC promo, we will both each get the card (rather than jointly) and temporarily use those for as many expenses as we can rather than the joint account. Between SW, Delta and Capital One Sapphire, we've each racked up thousands of dollars in rewards. Being able to responsibly maintain separate banking accounts can be rewarding as hell. Requires fiscal responsibility and a lot of trust.
Do we have a P&L approved workout plan? Thinking about transitioning from a 4/1 weights/cardio week to 3/2 and just doing more compound lifts for efficiency.
Just turned 30, started a business in Atlanta two years ago and consumes pretty much all my time. Latest GF (is 35) couldn’t handle the work schedule so she called it quits a few days ago...kind of scary that I didn’t care or think about it, went straight back in to work. Part of me thinks I’m going to wake up at 40 and wonder where it all went by
Sounds like you dodged a bullet. Certainly a lot of girls (probably younger than you at moment) that would appreciate you, especially when your schedule slows down.
One reason why I quit my previous job. I was 34 and spent most of my post-college adult life living to work. Fuck that.
We do the opposite. Everything into one account, then a few hundred each month goes to each of our individual accounts. That is for no questions asked spending.
I think the goal is the same. Each person is an adult who doesn't need to have their personal spending audited.
Very hard to start drinking, abruptly stop, and then try and continue your day. That’s a quick ticket home imo.
Same here. Both paychecks go into the same account and we charge almost everything to a joint credit card. I wouldn't have married her if I didn't trust her with money.
Three bloodies, bread, chicken and waffles, potatoes, giant cup of cookie dough, nap, headache by 3pm. I brought it on myself, but no ragrets.
Treat your body like its a car that you have to return at the end of a lease. *Hangovers take longer & get worse. (I drink less now & take hit of . I feel better the next day that way.) *Always stretch for 5 mins before & after exercising or being active. (You can turn ankle/tweak muscle when wouldn't have before.) * If something is slightly sore. (Immediately put ice then later heat on it. It doesn't automatically get better right away anymore.) * Your metabolism slows down.(Just make portions 15 % smaller, or dont get 2nd helpings if did before.) * Stay in decent shape. It takes 3x longer get it back in 30s. (You'll get injured if try get it back too quickly.) * Your body will hate you 10x less if you eat fruits/veggies/whole grains. (Eat one healthy meal a day.) * You arent 20 anymore. (Be smart. If try to be a badass & power through physical activity w/o more breaks then god have mercy on your soul.)
What Homo Erectus said about stretching. I’ve lost a lot of flexibility in my legs and I think it may be causing some lower back issues. But for real. Start giving a shit and taking care of your body. Hangovers were so bad I quit drinking all together.
Sorry man..Lower back stuff is effing terrible. I didn't stretch enough & kept on picking up nagging injuries. I mainly lift for core strength and swim/walk now. Also, I never have more than 2 drinks. Either 2 beers, or 1 stiff drink on wknds. Taking small dose of edibles helps with anxiety. (Wife was initially skeptical, but fine when drank less lol)
Fuck that. This is ridiculous and you’re way overcompensating. I’m 33 and I can still have 4-6 drinks and feel fine the next day. It all depends on what you’re used to. If I get completely hammered (10+ drinks) though, it will take me 2-3 days to recover.
My point was for some people hangovers get bad enough its not worth drinking a lot. My solution was cut back and add some . Now i don't feel like death next day. I just started doing this a year or two ago and i just turned 38 last week. Also by beers i mean pints of stronger beer (9-10%) or full glass of (Scotch/Whiskey) Thats probably closer to 3+ drinks
This was your quote: “Also, I never have more than 2 drinks. Either 2 beers, or 1 stiff drink on wknds. Taking small dose of edibles helps with anxiety. (Wife wasinitially skeptical, but fine when drank less lol).” That’s crazy talk unless you weigh 140lbs.
I'm 6'1'' 185 lbs & used to be able to throw down a 6 pack w/o blinking. Doesnt mean i do anymore. Also, most the time i drink I'm not at home. A few of my friends have DUIs when younger so I'm paranoid. Eating an edible equals 2 drinks w/o hangover and sleep better.
Time I stop drinking affects my hangovers way more than amount consumed. Where aging gets me the most is the pain of doing back-to-backs. Except in Europe — never get hung over there.
You’re going to have to refresh my memory on why I posted that and what transpired for this to get bumped.. But also, duhhhhh
To a degree you’re definitely correct, but vacation drunk in America still hurts a bit more. I think there are fewer preservatives and additives in European alcohol, but who knows.
I think wedding drunk happens all at once, like jungle juice drunk in college. I have the same feeling you do after six drinks, and I feel I have the same feeling after six more. But quickly after that I start slurring to bridesmaids, passing out in the corner/being quiet or going full Irish exit.
Makes sense. I can stay out in Lisbon or Berlin till 4 and wake up at 10 feeling refreshed. Drinking till 4 in the US kills me for a day minimum no matter when I wake up
Not sleeping is what I really notice about my 30s. In Officer Candidate School, I excelled physically. Was always one of the best at running, rucking and all of the smoke sessions. But I can’t lie getting 3 hours of sleep in a 48 hour period really made me feel some type of way.
I refinanced with Earnest last year and have been quite pleased, if interested PM me and I'll send you a referral. If you choose to refinance with them we both get $200 each.
I paid off about $20k of my wife’s student loan debt out of my savings a couple months ago because her private loan interest rate made my heart hurt. I felt great about the decision until reading this post and realized what I was really paying.
