If anyone is looking for a good inexpensive Blanco this is my go to.
I haven't tried casamigos yet but 2nd the Espolon rec.
Espolon is good stuff. Olmeco Artos Agave is good as well.
Anyone tried The Rock's new tequila, Teremana?
3 Amigos, can get it at Total Wine
Codigo is currently my favorite tequila. Been sipping it neat for the past 18+ months. Almost too good for ranch water.
That's a great buy, I would have done the same thing. I don't know much about tequila, but Casamigos is really really good. I'd be interested to try some other more economical brands with solid reviews as well. But Casamigos is the standard for us currently. The hangover has been almost non-existent with moderate to even high consumption levels.
have heard good things
i like casamigos and camarena
mezcal is great too, although it’s good enough to sip neat too
Casa Noble and Olmeca Altos Plata are two other ones I like. The latter can be found for cheap, so would probably make a great tequila for ranch water.
I am going to start this by saying I’m not a tequila snob. Like mezcal and also Casamigos so picked up a bottle of that and enjoyed it. Looked up the bottle and the reviews were hilarious how much the tequila people hated it
Now we got a stew going. I’m going to pick up the Casamigos blanco for the weekend. Will circle back to touch some of the other recs. Have been very interested in mezcal as well.
I've been using Espolon, may try Casamigos next.
I think I might give Espolon a go at basically 50% of the price
Yes, there's also a limited supply of cans. Constellation is the beverage group that produces, Tecate, Dos Equis, Corona, Modelo and others.
"Constellation has started to put distributors on allocation for certain packages, and retailers have communicated concern over shortages, as the Mexican government has deemed beer production inessential per shutdowns aimed at curbing COVID-19. The Mexican government has said that only municipalities with zero cases would be able to reopen businesses around May 17th/18th."
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador also said business can only resume in municipalities with “no COVID-19 cases,” and “STZ’s state has 534 and municipality has >22 cases.” MKM also noted that “can package availability is tight.”
On Wednesday, we reported a note that HUSA sales chief Jim Sloan sent distributors, basically telling them to brace for shortages in their Mexican portfolio.
“As inventory levels of individual SKUs at your HUSA Demand point fluctuate, certain SKUs may not be available for ordering at certain times,” it said. “Therefore, if you do not see a SKU available for ordering within the StarLink portal, that means that it is currently unavailable for you to order at this time.”
Apparently, he meant it.
Already we’ve heard from a few distributors who were unable to order key packages last week, including Dos Equis 12 and 6 pack bottles, Dos 7 oz. 4 and 6 pack bottles, and Tecate Light 7 oz. bottles.
Another distributor describes a situation where his orders have actually been stuck in the queue for months.
They ordered in February for April shipment, but April never made it. “Additionally, my May order won’t either, thus, I’m out of stock on all Dos Equis, Tecate, and Tecate Light,” per source.
The orders read as “open” in the portal, still. “I’m told when they ramp up they’ll send orders on a first-come, first-served basis,” per source.
To be clear, we’ve also spoken to some distributors in less major Dos markets, who don’t seem to be having widespread problems.
HUSA SPEAKS. We asked HUSA about how widespread these shortages are, and how long they might last.
“As the situation is ever-changing, HUSA continues to monitor inventory of core SKUs for our Mexican brands based on the inventory available at each of our Demand Points. This means inventory levels of individual SKUs at different Demand Points will continue to fluctuate, and at certain moments in time, it may not be possible for some distributors to order certain SKUs.
“HEINEKEN USA is working around the clock to assess distributor’s open orders as we manage our inventory levels to ensure consumers won’t miss out on their favorite beers. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with HEINEKEN Mexico and our distributor partners while we navigate through these unprecedented times.”
MKM DOWNGRADES STZ, BELIEVING THAT MEXICAN OUT OF STOCKS WILL INCREASE THROUGH JUNE
Constellation finally has a “sell” rating from an analyst. MKM downgraded the stock on Friday, contemplating significant Mexican brand out of stocks this summer.
As BBD readers know, Constellation has started to put distributors on allocation for certain packages, and retailers have communicated concern over shortages, as the Mexican government has deemed beer production inessential per shutdowns aimed at curbing COVID-19. The Mexican government has said that only municipalities with zero cases would be able to reopen businesses around May 17th/18th.
But “regardless of decisions made by Mexico, the breadth of STZ U.S. out-of-stocks will increase through the end of June,” says MKM.
Based on MKM’s own internal best guess about the time it takes Constellation to brew and ship “many” of their beers from Mexico to the U.S., the very best case scenario means “May 18th increased production begins resolving out-of-stock issue by June 27th.”
But they think it unlikely that the brewer will be able to increase production on the 18th, noting a few reasons, including the fact that “Mexico already pushed the date once.” Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador also said business can only resume in municipalities with “no COVID-19 cases,” and “STZ’s state has 534 and municipality has >22 cases.” MKM also noted that “can package availability is tight.”
Bottom line: “If STZ can’t increase production by mid-May, July could feature wide out-stocks.”
Amid all this, distributor sources are still telling BBD that things are tight. Said one, late last week: They are “at least trying”… May orders were condensed to primarily bulk packages “(Modelo 12’s, Corona 12’s and 18’s),” so the company is “doing what they can to at least get us whatever is left at the DC.” But that will likely “put us out of odds and ends items like the Refresca’s, Chelada’s etc. …We might make it on Corona IF we can get early June shipments.”
do you have any none shit tier opinions?
My 2nd favorite Atlanta street only behind Hosea L Williams
This Negra Modelo ain't going to drink itself
Espolon is the best
Cabrito is better than espolon and like $10 less
the rose Codigo is a game changer
I shaved my quarantine beard into a Corona stache’ yesterday. Impeccable timing.
you are now ready to steal women at a buffalo wild wings in Opelika Al
Very refreshing and better for you than a margarita. Where have you been my whole life?!?
Great value Blanco.
Got limes, Topo Chico, and Casamigos Blanco tequila. Someone give me the best recipe/instructions, please. Thank you so much.
Let’s do this.
Just read this thread and realized I had Tajin in the pantry. Even better!
Tajin is what makes it for me
I dig cazadores too
We put this stuff on avocados. So good.
fill a glass up with ice, juice a whole lime, fill halfway up with tequila and the rest of the way up with topo Chico. Wash rinse repeat
Oh this is good. Even more refreshing than expected. 9.5/10
You’ll be hammered by noon today. Congratulations.
I feel like this is what finally unites TMB
Except there will still be some assholes calling this “tequila soda”
Registering another vote for Espolon. Easily my favorite of the mid-priced tequilas. I make my ranchwaters with their reposado. Camarena and Cazadores are acceptable if Espolon is unavailable.
As to the higher end tequilas, Clase Azul reigns supreme IMO. Casamigos is excellent. Also check out El Tesoro if you can find it. They make a truly wonderful reposado.
Teremana tequila is terrible. I’d rather drink well tequila from a bar.
Don Julio. Blanco for Ranch Water and Anejo for neat/rocks. I pay the extra to have zero hangovers.
Patron silver, lime topo Chico, ice...pool.
I’ll be unconscious by 5.
Lake tribe 850 represent
About to try Mezcal with my Topo Chico. Needed to mix it up.
i sprinkle it liberally on taco meat and have been known to take it to Disneyworld to put on my dole whip
honestly, I sprinkle it on basically anything
Ok, I got a bottle of the Rock’s tequila, some topo Chico, and limes. Explain what to do like I’m an alcoholic 5 year old
you take a cup
and you put all those things in it
Step 1: Grab a funnel
Step 2: Attach a large-ish plastic hose to the bottom of the funnel
Step 3: Insert the other end of the hose into your anus
Step 4: Profit!
There's a recipe like every 20 posts in this thread.
I've been drinking some Sotol I picked up in Marfa and it's really giving mezcal a run for it's money
We’re still waiting....
