If you can go to the Waxahatchee tour, absolutely do it. Played all of Tiger’s Blood and a bunch of older stuff plus a few Plains covers over ~2 hours. She sounded incredible. Awesome set. Played an unreleased song during the encore “Much Ado About Nothing” that is a capital B Banger. Snail Mail was really fun. Felt a little sparse with just her, a guitarist and a drummer but she’s great.
I’m gonna listen to the new toro this morning on computer speakers then do Lenderman at lunch on headphones
Want to save my thoughts for when I finish it, but I’m at Rip Torn and I feel good saying this is up there with English Teacher and Yard Act for my AOTY
This Toro album sounds like the soundtrack to a shitty movie about high school kids having a “rager” while the parents are on vacation
I gave it a go, still doesnt do anything for me. I don't think it's bad, just not my jam. Also a bit different than this thread but Fred Again and Nala Sinephro also out today. Generally work type music for me on in the background .
yeah they've sold me, especially seeing it put on the same level as that English Teacher album, gonna gummy this evening and give it a digital spin
With the almost assured continued decline of P4k quality, I think I might pivot my indie fest to hopscotch
Saw him this summer at our local neighborhood street fest, which was great and essentially free, but he didn’t play much of the album at all. I’ll definitely be going next time he comes through chicago though
I haven't listened to Toro in forever but now I'm a little curious. MJ Lenderman album is so damn good. Going to listen again before I dig into anything else.
Apropos of nothing but I saw two different people make the same car seat headrest joke on Twitter and I’d like to believe that’s my algorithm moving forward. Feed me every iteration of this joke:
It was pretty bad IMO. Like not just not my thing, just bad. I didn’t even finish it and moved on to Hinds.
Windows open on a beautiful morning in Chicago as coffee brews and I deal with a hangover, Manning Fireworks playing on my speakers feels perfect
The amount of times this weekend there’s nothing in my head but “I’ve got a houseboat docked at the Himbo Dome.”
The New Yorker has an article on Lenderman this week. Him and the Wednesday singer are no longer an item but he's still in the band. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/09/09/mj-lenderman-manning-fireworks-music-review
