Extremely long thread of conservative audacity and stupidity. Conservative school board members collude to fire beloved superintendent of 20+ years over mask mandates, up next on their agenda is book banning, banning of CRT and trying to install cameras in classrooms to make sure the likes aren't being taught (Douglas County in Colorado)
Jesus Jesus Christ. What the fuck is wrong with people? Tennessee is going through the same stuff, and I am actively trying to relocate. Colorado was on the top of my list, too.
It was on the top of my list too, achieved that dream only to realize I can't do the absurd high cost of living at 30 years old as a teacher
We officially can’t teach about MLK, Medgar Evers, Jim Crow Laws and black codes next year if I’m reading the MS CRT bill correctly
Currently working in IT dept of a community college. Can confirm we chill. Pay sucks relative to other IT sectors.
You can prob go get another job easily if you want. Sat in on interviews recently for a webmaster at UofSC, both finalists were in their 20s and not super experienced
Get out of here with that... This is a thread for people don’t get paid what they’re worth but are still stressed all the time at work.
Not a teacher or in any way related to that sector, but just posting to say Emma you always seem like a real sound bloke. Sorry to hear shit is not going smoothly, and I hope you can work it out. Rooting for you, buddy
Well this answers my next question about your experience with them. Have a potential job opportunity with them and I know it varies by region but just sort of blind about how they operate.
Thanks pal, I appreciate it. Shit always works out until it doesn't and so far things still work out for me.
I can't stand administrators who get off on their power just try to make everyone's life miserable for no reason. I have a student at my high school who wants to start a club to raise mental health awareness and the AP who oversees activities is doing everything she can to make it difficult for her to do so. This AP is that person at a school that all staff and students dislike and is conveniently paired with the worst guidance counselor in the school. Any time I have a student come in that falls in their alpha, I just feel bad for them because it just means anything school related that they need help with will be unnecessarily harder than it needs to be.
Any good or bad experiences working with them or just sort of what y’all use? I know a lot depends on the rep assigned to your school and doesn’t help that everyone is unhappy with how long it’s taking to get stuff shipped to their schools the last couple of years (which could lead to things like duc15 having several reps in just a few years)
Denver Public School's superintendent makes 260,000. He was interviewed about the state of the district. He lives in the Highland area of Denver. He makes 155,200 more than the area median income for a family of four. He goes on to states even he is struggling to make rent with a family of four. Fun profession Starting DPS salary is 45k btw
Coming from a college that worked with them. If you got a good rep things go well, if you don't, well may god have mercy on your soul. One of my friends who is still coaching there said they just got gloves they ordered back in July. When I was there, each team/department within the athletic department got an X amount of dollars to spend on themselves courtesy of BSN. The stuff was ordered in July. I didn't get my stuff until like November, and two of the shirts were the wrong color. It took so long to get it, I just said fuck it I'll keep it because lord knows if you got to return it that it's going to take even longer to get the correct thing.
Our rep has been traditionally great for us, just had some supply issues this year, probably due to the pandemic, that has slowed everything down. I coach baseball and our general rule has been to get everything ordered 3 months ahead of time to avoid any issues.
Had a teacher at my high school get fired the other day for repeatedly making sexual innuendo comments toward female students.
Last teacher at my school who got fired for something they said was fired for telling the black female students that they shouldn’t date/marry white dudes.
We had a male teacher that was allegedly messing with a male student. Said teacher is no longer with us
Here in GA we make sure our superintendents don't have to worry about rent https://www.ajc.com/politics/salari...s-state-employees/KYYDQ3TVT5BX5EJHNDXBAYBFIU/
The benefits some of these people get is ridiculous, but I can't find the article that detailed it. Rent, vehicles, food stipends, and more if I'm remembering correctly.
Had a parent get offended I called her "Miss" once because I was implying that their child comes from a broken family.
Ahh, state testing period. My favorite part of the year where I get to sit around and do no… huh? What you mean I have to proctor a test? DAMN YOU!
One time I drew bongs and cuss words on the front of my test booklet while bored....thought they got thrown away. Got called to the office later about it
Just had a Kindergarten student tell another student to "not poke the bear" and I'm honestly not sure if they heard it from their teacher or their parents
Our state testing is this week and the Oregon tests are nuts. Luckily I’m out on paternity leave for the 2 weeks they plan on testing.
This was on my desk this morning so I’m feeling super appreciated The greatest gift was two of my most difficult students (that I have two times per day) being absent which made for smooth sailing… Spoiler
