Owning them should be illegal. These guys with buildings full of venomous snakes should be investigated.
This was posted on my local next door app I don't know what it is, but it sure doesn't look like it's from this area (central texas)
Looks like a rat snake to me or a baby racer Owsley arent baby racers usually patterned like that or am I mistaken?
That’s a bit much. That’s like saying people shouldn’t own certain types of dogs just bc a few people are idiots. It’s heavily regulated. But these guys with YT channels that free handle venomous are stupid and are doing themselves and the hobbyists No favors.
Wtf lol. All dogs of a breed aren't viscous bc a few are. ALL venomous snakes WILL bite you when given the opportunity. 100%, every single one. They should not be owned outside of science facilities.
I just don’t think owning a warehouse and having 1,000 hours of “experience” should qualify someone to own a bunch of King Cobras.
I’m sad about it Dingo was from South Africa and had a Steve Irwin type personality. He was a grandmaster and wore snakeproof gloves but when you keep 100+ venomous, simple housekeeping can get you got and that seems to be the case. Green mamba got him and now he exits earth with a 40 ish year old wife and 3 kids. RIP, dudes in the hobby need reality checks
How the fuck I get this guy out of my warehouse I had him cornered and his body came out and I tried to put the broom handle and pull him out and he got back under the shelves
You make zero sense. If that was true then every keeper would get bit EVERY time. They’re are plenty of keepers that haven’t gotten bit primarily bc they don’t free handle.
He’s an expert at everything. Just like the F1 thread he starts taking an interest in something then comes in all kool aid man thinking he knows it all
Good thing you don’t make the rules. If people want to be dumb and free handle venomous snakes they know the dangers.
Comparing dog breeds to venomous snakes is beyond dumb. There's no dog breed that's 100% going to eat your face off. 100% of venomous snakes will bite when given the opportunity. They can't be trained to not do that.
Are you arguing that some venomous snakes won't bite? Like that some are trained? I guess I'm confused what part of my take you're objecting to.
This is 100% false. You can’t speak about absolutes. Plenty of people handle them and don’t get bit. Is it a good idea of course not.
Those people get lucky. It's only a matter of time. No different than owning a tiger or an alligator.
Same exact thing, plenty of people don’t get bit by gators. Is it dangerous, of course it is. But you can’t keep talking about absolutes then say oh well they’re just lucky, it’s just a matter of time, when it’s not. Just admit youre out bc of your depth.
Owning a bunch of venomous is about a million x more dangerous than an alligator This argument is also very dumb RIP Dingo, my heart breaks for his family
Keeping venomous reptiles is inherently dangerous, but I thoroughly disagree with the “it’s only a matter of time” take on it. It is also inherently more dangerous when you’re trying to constantly generate clicks and content for a social media following and/or have a collection larger than your means to maintain proper husbandry and attention to detail; snakes have very clear body language. It also should be akin to something like falconry in the difficulty of obtaining specimens and the years of trainings and apprenticeships required before being able to maintain sole ownership. Plenty of scientists and private keepers have worked with venomous snakes for years and never been bit.
On topic of pythons, how is it so easy to get a retic. Legit looks like I can get 1 today from NERD for $500. I have no experience with snakes, let me get 1 of those today
I’d trust a retic more than an Indian or African rock python; scrubs can be very flighty and nervous as well. Anacondas are usually pretty calm as far as giant snakes go, but their husbandry is more demanding given their semiaquatic nature. Boelen’s are the holy grail though in terms of beauty and temperament.
I've been looking at Garett Hartles dwarf species of Retics. Which are a good bit smaller than the mainland ones. Might be worth looking into. Morphmarket has plenty under $200 unless your looking for specific morphs.
saw this fella on the Wilson Mtn Trail in Sedona in August up around 6K feet. Believe it was a black tailed? Spoiler
Based on the tail, I’d agree. Could also be a Mojave, but I think the white and black look to be pretty even, which is a good field ID for westerns. Mojave would be closer to 2:1 white to black.
