“I was younger than you are now….when I was given my first command” “I led my men into a massacre….witnessed their deaths first hand” “let me tell you what I wish I’d known, when I was young and seeked glory…..no matter who lives…who dies…history has her glory….”
Amazing performance per usual today. The guy playing GW was incredible and crushed One Last Time, but the wife and I both agreed that Eliza stole the show. Looking at cast bios, turns out she was the original broadway understudy, so doesn’t really surprise me that she would be such a star.
Driving this morning and “It’s Quiet Uptown” came up on the shuffle, was crying before the initial piano riff finished.
Have tickets to see Leslie Odom Christmas concert in a couple weeks and saw he’s been singing Wait For It. Seems a bit different than the one from the play but still excited
Entire concert was phenomenal. Amazing voice. He did sing Wait For It during the encore, which was easily my favorite song from Hamilton so it was a dream come true Definitely recommend if he comes near any of you on future Christmas tours
Is there a musical thread? I’m going to Come From Away on Saturday and have no clue if it’s any good I’ve probably been to 30+ in my life bc I’m a cultured unlike you degenerates and usually never disappointed Hamilton #1 Les mis #2 (I’ve seen that shit like 5 times)
I went last minute in London a few years ago by myself because I was meeting my family and they hadn’t arrived yet. Grabbed a TKTS seat for like 40 pounds. Got two Heinekens and sat in the first row of the balcony. In the first 30 minutes, I laughed and cried about 2-3 times. awesome story. You’re gonna love it.
Fuck it, musical/play thread it is Went to NYC in May and again in December May: Got rush tickets to Book of Mormon. We’d seen it before, it’s good and funny but I enjoyed it much more the first time I saw it like 10+ years ago. Uncle Vanya at the Lincoln Center (Went to this because of a star studded cast: Steve Carell, William Jackson Harper, Alfred Molina, Alison Pill, Anika Noni Rose) was alright. Definitely some fantastic acting going on. Won the lotto for Wicked. Holy shit. We’d seen this on tour but seeing it on Broadway felt so much bigger. My wife was crying at intermission after Defying Gravity because she was so happy. December: Romeo + Juliet. Really enjoyed this take on it. Small theatre, seems like there’s no bad seat. Whole cast was fantastic but the big names, Rachel Zegler was great. She sang and wow what a voice. But holy shit Kit Connor is a star. He’s so good. We came home and binged Heartstopper on Netflix to see more from him. Maybe Happy Ending: Original Broadway cast. Really hoping to see it get some Tony love. Darren Criss is great but he was maybe the 3rd best singer of the cast. Beautiful story, incredible set. Want to go back and see this again honeslty Six: My number one reason for starting to look at going in December was to see the current cast before they leave. Story of the 6 wives of Henry VIII told in a musical competition by the women. All female cast and band. My wife has a Broadway playlist that had the power ballad from this in it and I was k blown away by the song. Then watched the Tiny Desk concert and was even more blown away by the current actress’ rendition. Here’s a clip of her singing it below. Well she was on vacation the week we went but the alt we saw that night was phenomenal. Whole show is super fun. Very catchy music.
blind dog I went into the show totally blind and it was awesome. If you haven’t read up on the show, I recommend you remain a blind dog for it
legit all I know is a bunch of planes get grounded in Canada bc of 9/11 and it’s based on true events based on a 1 minute YouTube my daughter is going to Disney and we have to drop her off at airport in Dallas at like 4am on Friday, it’s my wife’s bday so we are making a weekend of it. Googled Dallas broadway and that’s what was playing LFG
Flew in for one night earlier in the year to see Sutton foster and Aaron tveit in Sweeney Todd before they moved on. Holy shit are they phenomenal. I will now see them in anything at any time. also saw Merrily We Roll Along. Of course Radcliffe and Groff were great, but it was the first time I have seen Lindsey Mendez and she stole the show.
Come From Away is phenomenal! Saw it recently on a tour. It’s one of my favorite soundtracks. The story is great, and the music is awesome.
I would like to. Don’t know when I’ll be back though. We had also wanted to see Hadestown but were only there a few nights and couldn’t fit it in. I’ve heard Jordan Fischer is incredible. Tours hitting Columbus this year that I’d like to see: & Juliet, Kimberly Akimbo, Hamilton
We saw Hadestown in London last summer and it was mid af. I’d recommend something else. I haven’t seen Kimberly but people I trust did not care for it
It was 4th out of 4 shows we were down to. We knew we were seeing Six, then we were extremely likely to see MHE but then also happened to win the lotto for it. It’s new to Broadway from Korea. So Asian creator, a lot of Asian cast. It’s getting a lot of support so it was very cool to see a lot of other Asians in the audience supporting Asians on stage. Since we won lotto for Wednesday evening MHE, R+J had matinee and Hadestown didn’t so it was decided but we were both very happy afterwards that we saw R+J. I would strongly recommend seeing MHE if you can, especially with the current cast. If you were to do so, I’d also strongly recommend checking out r/Broadway or r/MaybeHappyEnding for suggestions on seating due to the set design and making sure you have a good view. I’m not sure how well it would work as a touring show. The songs aren’t really catchy where they’ll get in your head and not what you think of for a Broadway musical. More jazz tunes. But the music and songs are still great.
I saw Les Mis for the first time two nights ago, and now my #1 and #2 are the same as yours. The wife and I also decided that night that we're going to track down tickets for Come From Away in March. The other this season here that I wouldn't mind seeing is Kimberly Akimbo. A co-worker, who toured nationally with Phantom as Madame Giry, loves KA and is pushing me to see it. I haven't seen as many as 30, but have tried to see as many as feasible over the last few years after not having much interest for years. A few that I really enjoyed, but not as much as 1&2 including a few guilty pleasures: Phantom - Because, duh. Beetlejuice - funny as hell. The lead had an improv background and worked it into crowd interactions, with a few moments stopping the action while he/we continued the gag of the moment. Wicked - another "duh." Jagged Little Pill - I've heard mixed reviews, but I'm an angry 90s rock stan, and the family's storyline resonated with what a lot of my generation goes through as parents of teens, etc. One of the supporting actresses did a version of You Oughta Know that is one of the best individual vocal performances I've ever heard in person in any format. It brought a mid show standing ovation. Jukebox musicals can be hit or miss. (Stay tuned) Mrs. Doubtfire - just a silly, guilty pleasure enjoyable show. A handful of in between, and the worst I've seen was another jukebox musical - Girl from North Country. I like Dylan's music, but cramming his songs into a poorly conceived storyline was a stretch. They tried to tell too many people's stories in the context of the show and did so poorly. Really, it was just boring.
Has anyone seen and enjoyed Harry Potter and the Cursed Child? My fiancee and I both love HP and I know the overall story of Cursed Child but I've heard the show is worth seeing even with the dumb plot. It's coming to Chicago so I was debating grabbing tickets.
Spoiler annie get your gun best little whorehouse in texas damn yankees elf fiddler on the roof the full monty grease hamilton jersey boys jesus christ superstar joseph and the amazing technicolored dreamcoat little shop of horrors million dollar quartet les miserables miss saigon oklahoma phantom of the opera rent south pacific waitress west side story well maybe not 30 but i'm sure i missed a few and forgot some just quickly scanned thru list. i used to go a lot more when i lived in LR and had better touring options
Aaron Tveit is a beautiful man. Ever since Lin Manuel hosted SNL post Billy Bush pussy grabbing tape was released and did the “You ain’t ever gonna be President now” to a picture of Trump I realized that Hamilton will age like milk. If I saw it for the first time in today, it would probably piss me off. Not taking away from the songwriting but the overall tone of the show is a relic from another time.
Grabbed orchestra tickets to see & Juliet tour in a couple weeks. Was looking over the cast and see one of the actresses has Broadway Elphoba in Wicked on her credits, hot damn
Because we’re making this the general Broadway thread, we just bought tickets to see Oh, Mary! with Bettty Gilpin in it, and Operation Mincemeat. I’ve heard Oh, Mary! is hilarious. A little bummed we missed the writer/lead, but I won’t complain about staring at Betty for two hours. Anyone seen it? I don’t know much about Operation Mincemeat. It’s in previews and a friend wanted to see it after hearing great things about its West End run. The same cast from West End is apparently doing the 16 week Broadway engagement.
Haven’t seen it but seems like most that see Oh Mary rave about it. Wish we could’ve seen it while Cole was still in it but would not be disappointed to see Betty. Titus Burgess is stepping in when she’s done.
We saw Operation Mincemeat last night and it was a total surprise. I haven’t seen the movie (which apparently isn’t good) and wasn’t familiar with the true WWII story, but the show fucking slaps. Somehow they did an incredible job telling the story and vacillating between silly jokes and absolutely heartwarming songs. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place when one of the male leads who plays an old MI5 woman secretary sang her love letter, Dear Bill. What a show.
I wish we would have stayed an extra night to see this. I don’t know if I’m gonna have a chance to catch this cast.
I’ve been perusing r/Broadway since a little before our December trip and it seems extremely rare that someone has anything but a glowing review Saw Tituss’ run sold out real quick
she was fantastic. I know people are excited about Titus but I’m super happy we saw Betty. the scene near the end where she is auditioning had the whole audience falling out of their seats. great show; she’s such a babe
